The Oracle is a hero for playing dice with people's lives? Nah. Trinity is a hero. Naobi is a hero for letting Neo commander her ship. And Neo is a hero for having the courage to to venture to the machine mainframe, plug into the Matrix at the source, then luring the rogue Smith into a trap.
She was the only one out of those people who could actually make a difference and she did so out of the "kindness of her heart." She literally had no motivation for helping humans other than just giving a damn about people. Without her actions it would have been business as usual or bye bye humanity.

She was a program doing what she was programmed to do, until the 3rd Matrix when she allowed the Smith virus to infect her.
She went into exile and the other programs were coming for her neck. She clearly was not doing what she was suppose to do.

Have you seen " the Animatrix" I love this film also, gives more detail on what happened and how the matrix started. The soundtrack awesome too.
