I'm 30, and I will never stop listening to rap. I'll even listen to the ignorant shyt if I grew up on it. I have found myself however getting more deep into soul/r&b from the 70s and 80s. The only rappers I listen to now that are younger than me are Lupe, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar.

I can say that Im not inclined to check for every new artist like I used to... Big thread on Kendricks snippets that I just dont care to check out... Section 80 was cool, but it didnt leave me wanting to be a Kendrick fan

I bet 100 that none of these "Im drifting :wrist: " fakkits, are black.

Hip Hop is something that is a part of my peoples soul and culture. You cant just "drift" away from it.

Needless to say, you are prolly just a aging fella of another hue, its all good, hip hop wasnt really made for ya anyway.

c/s.

That's why I said Public Enemy has to be white from that post he made.

I don't see how a black guy that grew up on hip hop can lose interest in it.

hip hop is so much more than music

Will always listen to Hip-Hop, when I turn 30,40,50+ its apart of me. Hip-hop, Jazz,Soul,Roots Reggae, Dancehall, even Rock. Why be on a message board thats mainly hip-hop and make a statement like this though?

It's possible that the genre's already peaked, but there's no way I'll ever stop listening to rap entirely. At this point, I'm content with getting three or four gems a year. I think the fact that I've heard so much good hip-hop over the course of my life makes it hard for me to get excited about new music. Action Bronson is pretty great, though.

This is absolute Bullshyt. There is waaaay more variety now than there has ever been because of the internet

No they were not. It just seem new to you because you grew up on it.

Nah I disagree on both points.

First off, it was more diverse back then. We're talking about an era that gave birth to all the subgenres of rap that exist today. Any rapper you can name nowadays is a direct descendant of something someone did 20-30 years ago.

Just because you can use Google to search millions of different sites, doesn't mean shyt is more (or equally) diverse. That's like saying there's a lot of water in the desert because you have the technology to pin point exactly where the water is.

And they were more creative with it. I don't even understand how that point can be argued.

How was it more diverse? The majority of hiphop was coming out of one region back then.

It was creative because it was new. Every thing that you claim was more creative can looked at as not so creative.

So I've noticed that I have been listening to less and less rap lately, and was wondering if anyone else has the same, I mean I've been steadily losing interest for the past 4-5 years with some of the ringtone music being put out but I always manages to find dope albums, but now it seems that I don't even have the patience anymore...and even worse, albums that seem to be good don't really appeal to me, I've seen threads here where brehs were giving props to the Pacewon album, Murs/Fashawn joint, but they don't sound that hot to me even tho that's three artists I'm down with...Halfway thru MellowHype and it's kind of :ehh: to me, even tho I'm an OF fan...

Don't get me wrong, I did grow up in the 90s (grew up on Wu, Mobb Deep, Nas, BCC, Def Jux, Death Row, Bassment, RR, Rocafella, Non-Phixion...) but I like "new" artists like eXquire, Ab-Soul, Kendrick Lamar, Danny Brown (I know he's not new, but just discovered him with XXX), Q, Black Opera, Bada$$...I'm quite open-minded whne it comes to music, I'll bump that Flatbush Zombies tape, that Asap Mob, that SpaceGhostPurp... but thing is I feel I'm talking less and less time now to discover dudes...I've been listening to a lot of what is consdiered "left field" music now (electronic, dubstep, moombathon, trap) and it appeals a whole lot more to me, some beats are just insane. I hardly anticipate albums now anymore (Sean P being the exception, as well as Wu-related albums).

I think it's basically the beats that aren't really appealing to me now, I can manage with bs lyrics but the beats have to be dope. Anyway else feel they're slowly drifting away from hip-hop?

There's nothing wrong with looking into other genres. Last year, more than any other year, I listened to more alternative, 70s rock, downtempo. I still kept up with hip hop, though.

I did get a little bored with hip hop, but I took that time to go back and listen to early 90s hip hop. I've discovered so many good hip hop albums I'd never heard before.

One region? Huh? Unless you mean for a few years in the 80s, I dunno what you're talking about. I'm talking about the late 80s through the 90s, when rap spread beyond NY.

You had De La Soul, BONE, Pac, Jay, Cypress Hill, Wu-Tang, DJ Quik, Outkast, Redman, Scarface, A Tribe Called Quest....hell, I could go on and on....co-existing in the spotlight. In the spotlight. Not existing in some dark corner of the internet you gotta go search for.

And it was creative because it was creative. No song like "I Used To Love HER" existed prior to that....or "Millie Pulled a Pistol On Santa"....or "Potholes In My Lawn"....or Gravediggaz, or horrorcore in general....or "Children's Story"....or DAS EFX....or Digital Underground....hell, you had several groups from the same region with virtually nothing in common stylistically, like Too Short, Hieroglyphics and The Coup.

It was more new than anything. Hiphop was still young then. Almost anything being done was considered creative because it was new.

It's been 20 years since those times you can't criticize the new age for lack of creativity
