I think its just the natural progression of the listener..

Its like how our parents grew up on real soul music with real great singers and would call todays stuff trash.

Apparently on the Coli someone is white if they don't feel the same about hip hop like they once did.......

They are forced to like it FULLY like they did when they were young, or they are a evil white man corrupting the culture and not understanding.

:troll:

I'm an evil white man corrupting the culture and I never drifted away from rap. :ld:

There was more variety in the mainstream. Back then you had different styles of rap like Tupac, A Tribe Called Quest, Heavy D, De La Soul, Ice Cube, PM Dawn and others all being embraced in the mainstream and being played on the radio and embraced on the charts. Different styles were embraced and you didn't have to search for it.

You don't have that now. The mainstream is dominated by one type of rap and they all sound the same. You want something different now, you have to search for it. Things are slowly changing tho.

I started moving away from a lot of mainstream hip-hop back in the late 90's, and it actually pushed me into trip-hop, acts like DJ Shadow, Massive Attack, Sneaker Pimps etc. But then that led me into acts from the Quannum Label for example. Much like others have said, I just needed a more organic sound to what I was looking for.

I'll never give up on it as a whole, majority of my music is still rap and still comes up on iTunes or on the iPod whenever I'm driving, I'm just not checking for most anything new because a lot of what comes out is the same.

Wouldn't say that I'm drifting away from it, but I'm definitely more selective than I was in the past where I would check for any artist.
