It's a given without being in the gym for 5-6 months.

I'm still trying to figure out what gym to sign up to, my gym before quarantine is a no go for the next couple of months.

Tore my pec, tendon from the bone. Just now cleared for curls, rows, and tricep kickbacks. Using 10 pound weights. Used my 15 pound kettlebell and shyt was too much, aggravated the chest even without targeting it. Make sure you hydrate and stretch and avoid overdoing it. I was doing dips on an uneven surface and the shyt ripped without warning. Been relegated to only walking until a week ago. Anyone else ever have pec tear surgery? Wondering how you get your confidence back, and if you lifted heavy again and how long that took.

Nah, but my boss tore his last year (benching) and is done for good (he's at least in his mid-40's though).

I'm 40. The surgeon said a pharmacist at the clinic got back into lifting heavy, but right now I don't have a desire for it. It still wakes me up at night if I'm in the wrong position though. I tell myself I'll be happy just repping at 225 or below, but I am probably kidding myself. The fukked up thing is I have younger friends I had been warning about doing 1 rep maxes on deadlift more than once a week and then did this shyt. I had stopped doing 1 rep max on bench for the most part and just stuck to doing reps of 315 at the end of a 5x5. I also stopped doing heavy overhead lifts a year or so ago when a couple of older guys at the gym complimented me but then started talking about their shoulder surgeries. So I had slowed down quite a bit. Then this shyt happened doing dips. Like wtf.

Eh. My boss is a lil DYEL typa cat and wasn't going heavy. I know dudes that stepped out they ride and tore their entire knees up (weren't even lifting). :francis:

Imma keep going heavy until I either physically can't or no longer desire to.

As far as heavy deads, brehs snap their shyt up doing all types of shyt, going heavy or light, using good form and bad. Human bodies break. :yeshrug:

this is scary as hell. i hope you recover up soon. were your dips weighted? or were you just not warmed up enough?

First time back in the gym since March and honestly my strength isn't that far off. I was shocked. Usually do 100 DB presses but could only get 90's. Felt like that was pretty good for being out of the gym for 7 months.

While I was out tho I was doing a sht load of pushups, pull ups, crunches, etc...

For bruhs still out of the gym you can maintain doing body weight exercises. I did lose weight tho. Dropped from 195 to 182 because I couldn't lift heavy

They weren't weighted, but I weighed between 275 and 280 and I noticed afterwards the left surface was lower than the right surface that I was doing dips on. I didn't bother warming up for about twenty years and had no issues until then. I will be warming up from now on. I was on a break from alcohol so I don't think I was dehydrated but it was early in my day so that might have played into it. I still can't believe that's how I had my first major injury.

In physical therapy this week I'll be trying my first pushups since the surgery. If I can do them without pain at the repair site, it will build a lot of confidence I don't have right now.
