Yeah, Manny loves basketball. He held up his own PPV so he could watch the Eastern Conference Finals a few years back.

I'm 6'2ft and Filipino and random Filipinos come up to me like acting like I'm some mythological Filipino creature . Anyone above 6 ft is 7ft in their eyes.

Then they ask if I play ball and I tell em "ya, here and there whenever I got time" and they hit me wit the " if I had your height I'd be in the NBA , don't waste your height "

Anyways basketball is so popular cuz of the mix of being flashy, you can be selfish with the ball cuz most of the time these guys don't like passing tbh, and all u need is a ball and a hoop . I mean most Filipinos wear ball shorts under their pants just in case .

crazy how i was just asking myself this question a few weeks ago. im at the gym over at unlv damn near every night, and almost every night the phillipinos are running full courts. the brothas are either on the sidelines or chilling upstairs on deck watching them like we at the opera.

they all got the nike shorts with kobe's, lebrons and all that flashy fancy jiggy accessory shyt as well from head to toe. most of them are decent though, some be on that and 1 shyt, some got jump shots as well, but i've yet to see anyone of them with a post game. i saw one phillipino chick playing and she was shooting from the 3pt line like anthony mason from the free throw line

They were colonized by the Spaniards, and later, the U.S. took over. They are heavily influenced by the colonization of their country.
But that first pic that was posted is the truth.
I live in a city with a huge Filipino population.
When I go walk my dog in the park, fools are always playing basketball in flip flops.
That shyt bugs me out, I can't imagine walking in them shyts, much less driving to the hoop in them.
They even got the black kids in the neighborhood doing it.

Colonized don't mean shyt, India was colonized by the British but you don't see many mixed Indians at all.

Filipinos are full blooded asians , some might be mixed with Negritos( short indigenous Filipinos)

I had a few Filipino friends growing up (one of my best friends now is Filipino)...and sure enough, all of the were obsessed w/ basketball.

I wonder how much those Filipino leagues play...if its enough to live...they probably arent too worried about making it to the pros.

I understand it's a great game and even better when you follow the post, but seems kind of odd that the country has really latched onto the sport like that considering there are no full blooded Filipino NBA players. Jordan Clarkson is half, which I'm sure the Lakers will let everyone know since it's great PR. They seem to be obsessed with the game and it's the unquestioned number 1 sport there, which leads me to believe that within the next 15 years we'll see at least 1 high level basketball player that comes from there

Anyone on here know how this happened? I can understand how a sport can be popular in a country when that country has produced a player or two, but the fact nobody has come from there yet they absolutely love the game is crazy to me.

Supposedly the first filipinos were black midgets, so not surprised a lot of correlation between AA and pinoy affinity for basketball and boxing. The same goes for Spain, but you ain't hear it from me
