Any Filipinos on here that can explain why Basketball is so popular there?

I dunno what it is...but all the filipinos round my way love basketball too. They even got a filipino basketball league with like 16 teams in in. Theres only a couple thousand filipino people in the whole damn city.

I went out to watch em play...shyt was straight :russ:

Dudes were quick and had handles. Couple nikkas hat a wet J. But their center was 5'10 :mjlol:

The nikka could dunk tho so :yeshrug:

I lived in the Phils for a year on the most remote island.

It's the American influence for sure. YMCA I believe brought it over there during American colonization.

Best believe they are very serious about it. On my island every barangay (neighborhood) had semi-annual tournaments and if you know how hot-headed these motherfukkas are you know how tense these games would get.

Like most have mentioned they have no fundamentals at all though. Their shooting form is the most awkward shyt and they play a very individual game. Every player on the court thinks he's Kobe.

And yes, they do gamble on every single game.

Gambling runs in their blood. I seen some of my best buddies from there win 5x their monthly salary in a day at these cockfighting rings and lose it all the next hour. They literally cannot stop themselves until they run out of money

Yeah, I have no data or evidence to support any claims that I've made.
But all my Filipino friends and probably 90% of the ones I've met (I work in retail banking) have Spanish surnames.
And a lot of the curvy broads people are describing above definitely look mestizo, not as native as people in the outer regions of the Phillipines archipelago.

yeah curvy filipinas are a myth. those who exist are most of times mixed and not native. you will only find them in the big metropolitan cities.

their shyt ass diet and genes will never allow them to get into any respectable professional team sport
plus they're all like 5'5" and end up with hypertension and diabetes by age 40

i used to play bball with a lot of filipinos in hs, i was like 5'9 as a junior and i'd play center :heh:
"who's guarding big man?"
:dead:

their center would always be some dude who was like 5'8 and 250 pounds built like a samoan bullfrog.

The Truth
They cool though

Like I said, most play ball. Some are decent but I haven't seen too many that are actually good. Like college level good. There are taller Filipinos but not many.

Ive dated mostly Filipinas past few years. I like them, great bodies if they stay away from the bullshyt diets (rice, fried foods, etc). They got tempers too but If you're used to spanish women tempers you're used to theirs

They can be cocky too... very confident mofo's

yo one of the funniest moments i ever seen, was when i came off a mission in Afghanistan and was at Kandahar and saw some dudes shooting ball at the outdoor court by the warrior gym

and it was a team with 4 filipino dudes(civilian workers) and one nikka(civilian)

balling and beating the fukk out of a team with 4 nikkas (army) and one white boy(air force)

all the filipino dudes was under 5'6

and the shortest player on the other team was like 5'8

:mjlol:

Yo, been in one of the small slum islands in a very remote area of the Phillipines (the type of places you wonder whether a black guy has ever been to before). First thing i see when i hop off the boat is a basketball field with kids playing, and playing really well. Mind you i'm 6'7 so the kids immediately stop and surround me yelling 'my nikka my nikka' come play with us:lupe:. I didnt play to keep the myth alive, they were expecting NBA-level talent :whew:
