Any Filipinos on here that can explain why Basketball is so popular there?

Being mixed, I think a lot of it has to do with the 1vs1 nature of the sport. Filipinos love flashiness and showmanship, it's a part of the culture. Truth also be told, most of them also like a sport filled with darker people.

They got to put the fundamentals together along with changing their diet though. When they do they might produce some NBA guys.

maybe they'll produce players some where down the line...but not every futbol crazed country produces elite talent........and the love for kobe is real over there, i got a few pinoy cats that hit up the gym i go too and they stay draped in kobes gear.....

basketball is also big with Dominicans on the low and growing.....most the young dominicans i know even the ones born over there prefer bball over baseball......

Im not phillipino but the reason baskebtall is popular in poorer countries is the same as soccer. All u need is a ball and a hoop. No complicated equipment, bats, sticks or any of that other shyt. Get a ball and play

True, but to play at the elite level of basketball most of the time you have to be tall. Pinoys are not exactly known for being tall people. I can understand B-Ball being popular in the Balkans and maybe one day Scandanavia cuz those people are big. Maybe we'll see pinoy point gaurds in the league. Nate Robinson is like half or quarter filipino.

Filipinos are looked down upon partly because their society is undeveloped compared to countries like China, Japan and Korea. They're also shorter and seem to be less intelligent. They don't do well in most sports relative to the other Asians either, except maybe boxing. They're full Asians though.

Nate Robinson said his mom said one of his great great grandparents might have been Filipino, so at best Nate is maybe 1/8th to 1/12th. But I saw his mom and she just looks like your average dark skin girl. Honestly the admixture is unlikely because Nate's great great grandfather probably lived well before America opened its gates to immigration from South Asia. Americans often misstate their great and onward grandparent's ancestry, both whites and blacks. Every other cac and nikka claims they're part Native.

I'd honestly say that American-Filipinos are more athletic than any other asian culture

They were colonized by the Spaniards, and later, the U.S. took over. They are heavily influenced by the colonization of their country.

I live in a city with a huge Filipino population.
When I go walk my dog in the park, fools are always playing basketball in flip flops.
That shyt bugs me out, I can't imagine walking in them shyts, much less driving to the hoop in them.
They even got the black kids in the neighborhood doing it.
