Any marathon runners in here? Looking to train for one early December. Looking for some pointers for a first time runner.

What are you starting from? Like 0 miles? Or do you run every so often? Is your weight a factor? You can do it if you're not obese starting from zero. My best recommendation would be couch to 5k app (they have 10k, 1/2, and marathons)

Or use this guide https://trailandsummit.com/wp-conte...-marathon-6-month-training-plan-printable.pdf

It's easy. You won't be tired or sore. You just gotta do it. Imo the hardest parts are the low and slow runs especially after fast runs. It just seems like running for an hour or two slowly takes forever. You have to remember to just enjoy it.

Have different trails or parks you can run at to switch up the flow, also, have a place you can use a treadmill for inclement weather or really early or late runs.

I run about 3 times a week usually about 3-4 miles. Also play basketball. Weight isn’t a factor. I live in Hawaii so I definitely got different places to run and check out thanks for the info 🤙🏾.

Also try to run with a partner or group. As the breh above mentioned running for three hours alone is deathly boring. That being said running a legit marathon like New York or Chicago or Philly is an unbelievable experience. The energy of folks cheering the runners on is amazing.

I’m running with a partner for the marathon but I’m training by myself. I was looking at either Panama City or Memphis those are around my bday. Then the week after they have the Honolulu marathon.

a good first marathon. Absolutely no elevation. Honolulu might be tricky though.

Yeah you'll be good. Running with someone is cool on slow runs cause you can chat. But running alone isn't bad. Especially if you prep a playlist.

I have a kiger running vest so nothing is ever in my hands or my pockets. And with my watch if I need to skip a track, ff/rw... I mainly listen to long work related stuff. Get my headphones on and just keep the pace.

Like I said you just gotta run, it's pretty easy.

I still run all the time but, I fukked my heart up. I'm on heart prescriptions now but I still run (against doctors orders). I feel fine so I run, then I pay a price. Usually a day later. Basically your heart is covered in a membrane, kind of like a sleeve/glove/condom. And that membrane can get inflammed/irritated and swell up or tear. In my case it swells up and feels like my heart is being squeezed. All your typical heart attack symptoms, deep chest pain, radiating chest pain to arm/up the neck to the jaw. Then the heart starts racing to try to fix/reset itself and just makes things worse...

It sucks but if I die, I die. Won't be for or from something stupid.

Went to the doc on Friday. We believe it's pericarditis. I believe it too based on what I know about it. Gave me some prednisone (anti inflammatory med/steroid). I'm supposed to do a short use of it like 5 days, if even that.

Ran 10 Saturday and 10 Sunday. Heart feels perfect. Before, during and after. If I rested for a few days my heart would feel good, before and even during but afterward it would flare up. And I haven't exerted myself mileage wise or heart rate wise (160 bpm for 1-2 hours) in a minute cause that would fukk me up.

Man Saturday and yesterday felt great, and I still feel great.

Damn don't want to scare you breh but you should ease up. Don't go against your doctors recommendations. A good colleague of mine passed a few yeara ago from a massive heart attack in the shower after a run. This guy was probably one of the fittest dudes out there. He used to run everyday and worked in an environment where he was always moving around and active. He was in his early 50s.

My problem was always my posture and running style i would run on my toes and calves always tightened up to the point where my feet would go numb at times. Not sure if i needed compression sleeves or maybe it was something to do with my achilees tendon or calve muscles being too short/contracted for a full extension. I just ended up stopping. Nowadays i can't even play a few back to back basketball games.

You're not wrong. I'm kind of fortunate. The doc I see is an active runner and so are the 2 cardiologists he works with. We've actually ran at some of the same events (unknowingly). I had a lot of comprehensive tests and bloodwork done. I'm healthy. My organs are healthy. He told me a lot of people start working out then 2 months later come in like "yeah, I work out..." but through the tests they can tell.

I like to stay active, run, ride. Do something everyday. This set back has allowed me to just walk with the dog for 5 miles and just enjoy it. Gets the blood flowing, burns calories. Definitely have to have a balance.

What happened is I strained my heart back in December and pretty much everytime it healed up, I strained it more. Wash, rinse, repeat for like 5 months. And I realized it's not something that's gonna heal or fix itself.

Just started my training on the first of the month for this marathon in December. Day 3 did a 4 mile run on the track sprinted the straight 100s and jogged the corners. Also did some calisthenics. This weekend I’m going to do my first slow paced long distance run see how it goes hope to get up to about 8 miles gotta figure out a good route.

I do 40 mins on the treadmill 3-4 x a week. 5 minute warm up, 30 min run at 5.5 & 5 min cool down. I'm 6ft, 200lbs and running has my bedroom endurance feeling :blessed:

I do need to start stretching though :francis:

Any shoes ya'll brehs recommend for daily road running? I'm trying to get into doing about 3 miles a day 5-6 days a week around my neighborhood. Looking for something in the $100 range at least until I get more serious about it.
