They are known to abruptly cancel popular shows:yeshrug:

Popular shows is a broad general term if the ratings doesn’t justify the production costs. I don’t think people realize how expensive it is to own a streaming service. It’s not like network television or cable where you can let shows cook. You gotta have content being constantly churned out and that gets expensive. That’s why shows don’t leeway these days like they used to.

Sports would absolutely be a money loser for them. What they need and have not been doing is finding projects that have merchandising potential. The reason Disney is so successful is they have multiple revenue streams, most notably their consumer products division which brings in over 35 billion dollars a year.

You need merchandise to supplement the ebbs and flows of content. Which means you need a new Simpsons, you need a new Star Wars, you need a new Transformers. They can be cartoons, but they to be something that could become a franchise. Too much agenda stuff and paying the above the line talent TOO MUCH MONEY.

Meryl Streep made 20 million for The Laundromat. Why? That is a film that could have been made for 25 million. Budgets are out of control for "name" talent. These people don't even have fanbases like that.

Isn’t that essentially what they’ve been trying to do by constantly churning out new content until they find a hit. It’s what all these streaming services are trying to do. That shyt is easier to do on cable and network television with lower costs.

The budgets aren’t necessarily out of control for name talent these days. It’s more so the issue that you’re selling movies as part of a streaming service and not individually as you would if it was in theaters. They’re actually losing out on money instead of recouping costs.

If we’re keeping it 100% honest, Disney laid out the blueprint in how future movie releases should go on those services but people didn’t go for it. Someone is going to try it again eventually.

Netflix been making too many shows that only get a season before getting cancelled anyway :francis:

Lot's of shows with no name talent, a clearly cheap budget and dumb premises. Building a world class streaming company won't come on the cheap. They need to step their game up and stop getting B-level content

People say this but it’s false. If anyone is sniffing what they paid for cable tv packages monthly, they have 10x the amount of content than cable provided. Most folks aren’t near what cable tv cost

Give it time and those streaming services and internet will just as much monthly as it does for cable TV. It’s the exact reason why cable bundling was created in the first place and what’s going to eventually happen again. You’re seeing it now with services bundling together to survive.

You better believe that these services are eventually going to start trying to lock in customers long term and try and reduce the number of people who add and drop the service. It’s more financially feasible.

Netflix Officially Adding Commercials

It's the end of an era for Netflix. While the service has long been praised for its total lack of ads and commercials, Netflix is reversing its course on the matter. On Tuesday, Deadline reported that Netflix co-CEO Reed Hastings said that ads will soon be incorporated into the service.

Hastings' comments come shortly after Chief Product Officer Greg Peters acknowledged that there would be differences in pricing for subscriptions in different territories. Both Hastings and Peters discussed the current state of Netflix, and its future, during the company's first-quarter earnings call, which was posted to YouTube on Tuesday. During the interview, the CEO noted that they will begin to implement advertising on Netflix in the "next year or two."

"One way to increase the price spread is advertising on low-end plans and to have lower prices with advertising," Hastings said. "Those who have followed Netflix know that I've been against the complexity of advertising and a big fan of the simplicity of subscription." Even though he has been against the incorporation of advertising in the past, he acknowledged that this would be a necessary step for the streaming platform. He also said that this would be a positive for Netflix subscribers, as it will give them "consumer choice" and the ability to choose a cheaper subscription, albeit one with advertisements.
