And this is where the internet only/required comes into play. Games that take advantage of the cloud processing will need to be online.

It's a good trade off to me. Same with used games. There might be some extra fees or hoops to jump through, but the idea of my games and my profile following me over the cloud trumps any negative feelings about not being able to share games(although supposedly there are "solutions" for trading games with friends)

Yoshia says he wants PS4 versions of multiplats to be the best. :whoo: We're coming out swingin @Ayo

Sony’s President of Worldwide Studios for Sony Computer Entertainment Shuhei Yoshida recently spoke to Japanese publication 4Gamer (via Push Square) about how Sony is making sure PS4 gamers consider the PS4 version of multiplatform games to be the best.

Allegedly, back in the day, the PlayStation 3 suffered a fair bit when it came to multiplatform games due to the console’s hardware. Because of the console’s inner complexity (most probably because of its CELL architecture, I’m told), developers had a hard time getting to grips with developing titles for the PlayStation 3, which apparently resulted in many iffy games during its lifetime – despite it being (according to word of mouth) the better console.

It’s already known that the PS4 has a different architecture compared to the PS3 (that different architecture is more developer-friendly), and Yoshida considers this change important because he wants the PS4 versions of multiplatform games to be considered the best.

“We need to make sure users consider the PS4 version to be the best and the one that they want to play,” he told 4Gamer. “That might mean that the graphics are better, the controller is more comfortable, or the point I mentioned earlier about the console being more user-friendly, like you don’t have to turn the power on and off or you can switch between your game and Netflix at will.”
Yoshida allegedly believes that user-friendliness for the PlayStation 4 is going to be just as important in the next Console War.

“On portable smartphones and tablets, you can start playing as soon as you want to and quit whenever you like. PS4 will be a home console that can do that too.”
Granted the PS4 has rather monstrous specs. compared to its predecessor, it’s quite possible that the PlayStation 4 version of multiplatform games could be the one that comes out on top. Sony seem to be actively trying to make sure that this is the case, and it’s good to hear that they’re going to push how PS4 titles will look when compared to different versions of it.

However, with Microsoft’s special unveiling happening within a couple of weeks, the PS4 might be trumped by whatever could be revealed on the date – hopefully the expected next Xbox. Since I believe nothing is really 100% certain about the next Xbox, the consoles hardware may turn out to be superior to the PlayStation 4′s.

If I may be so honest, though, I don’t think that’ll be probably. I don’t necessarily have full knowledge of rumours circulating the next Xbox’s hardware, so what I’m saying is entirely subjective and speculative, but I don’t think the console’s CPU or memory will match the PS4′s. That’s just me, though. I hope to be proven wrong on May 21st, but Microsoft have a lot to say for themselves.

So are you going to tell me that the Devs are going to develop/create higher res assets and then down sample everything as needed for the XBOX One? Or come up with creative streaming and particle generation methods for the XBOX One to get around these imaginary (as of yet) limitations?

Doubt it. That adds hundreds of hours on to the dev time. Which they will get nothing in return. Think their going to sell more copies of a PS4 game because it has more realistic fog than the XBOX One version? How many people own both consoles?

Why do that when they can just create a great looking next gen game on the XBOX One and port it directly to the PS4 with no fuss involved.

You're not going to see the PS4's advantage on cross platform games. Not going to happen.

And the great thing is they are close enough in power that the games will still look great on both systems. This is like Xbox One/Mustang GT500 vs PS4/Corvette ZR1. One is slightly better than the other but both are fast enough to get you killed lol

Join us, friend. This is madness.

It's a good plan. Now it's up to the developers.

Do they create one version that looks good and port it as is.

Or do they create one version that looks slightly better and take the time to hack the shyt out of it in order to get it to run on another console.

I say they hack the dikkens out of it since Xbox Dung will have such a small market share this gen. From a business standpoint it makes the most sense.

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
So chances are the PS4 buyers will never see that performance boost until late late late late late into the generation when the dev processes are streamlined and tools are created to take advantage of the disparity and make porting easier.

It's x86 architecture, they aren't reinventing the wheel here, the power difference between the two consoles means the PS4 mutliplatform games will look better and the first party games should be a massive difference.

These are both essentially two PCs, one is weaker than the other. And no amount of cloud computing is going to make up for the lack of GPU horsepower.

The fact that their both x86 architecture is the exact reason that devs might just create 1 version that runs fine on both consoles. It streamlines the development process.

Why take the extra time to make a superior version for the PS4 when you're not going to get anything extra in return? It could literally be the difference of tens of millions of dollars in man hours and resources.

I can see them making an adjustment or two during the port process. But the XBOX One will be the console they develop on first. It only makes sense.

So the new spin is now cloud computing? That's strictly in relation to CPU and possibly improving AI with it. You dudes really don't believe it will have an effect on graphics do you  Like there will be some server out there with GPUs set up to help the One out by running in a cloud crossfire mode :russ:

Honestly I don't think the power difference is that great that any hacking will be that involved. With both consoles being pc based the pc will be lead platform in a lot of cases. So think of it like this. High-End pc = Ultra settings, Ps4/X1 high to med-high settings compared to PS3/360 low settings.

Why does it make sense if less xbox ones are going to be in homes and PS4 is actually the easier system to develop for? Tradition? For make xbot fanboys feel better?

Wait...you have sales numbers already? :lupe:

Uh, that's not how it works and it has never worked like that in the past. It's why 360 multiplat games generally look better than PS3 games.

Fam, what the fukk? No, it won't be millions of dollars, it will be as simple as turning down effects on the One version of the game, or the framerate being much faster on the PS4, or the PS4 having much better textures. What you're describing is absurd, my PC will run games meant for the PS3/Xbox at resolutions, framerates and with effects they don't have, and I doubt they spent anymore time in development to do that.

I can see them making an adjustment or two during the port process. But the XBOX One will be the console they develop on first. It only makes sense.

They will develop on whichever console ends up with the bigger userbase, and it will be as simple as turning off some effects. Think of it like a high end PC, and a mid level PC.......they both can run the same games, but the high end one looks better.

what's the last thing you developed?

"turning down effects"

LOL. nikka. This isn't the settings menu in your favorite PC game or the sliders in NBA 2K13.

SMH @ people who have no clue what their talking about. Not knowing the difference between Microsoft Word point and click and millions of lines of code, API's, and the differences in platforms even though they are both x86

the cpu can bottleneck the gpu and affect the framerate. that's the main reason they're changing the server architecture for the DayZ standalone
