American-Liberians=/=African-American

imma be honest, Liberian history pre 1960s has never interest me.

It's not like we had any advance civilization or ancient ruins for it to gather my attention. I only know of Liberian history from Samuel K Doe planning the coupe til now. Anything before that hasn't grabbed my attention.

Northern Liberia may have been apart of some West African empires.

Trying to attach AAs to them inadvertently attaches ya'll to them as well as the worst dictator in Liberian history too.

Anyone who says Americo Liberian = AA is an idiot. That fact is Americo Liberians are a mix of various new world blacks who were descendants of slavery in their respective countries and together made up the ethnic group that latwr became known as Americo Liberians. No different than AAs having ancestry of various West African groups and eventually becoming AA. We dont call AAs Mandingo because a few have Mandingo Ancestry. Ethnic groups are created by people being together mixing and creating new culture.

No arguments from me there, except lets not fail to mention the huge number of recaptives who were African-born, mostly from the Congo who made up the Congo/Americo-Liberian class as well.

The misconception comes because the ACS was American backed and Liberia was a Proxy colony for America thus people make the lazy assumption. AAs contributed to Liberian history which is a fact but Americo Liberian doesnt = African American.

And @Diasporan Royalty my bad for coming at you but this came off as a continuation of the stuff in other threads especially because Ive never made the claims the thread is making AND you displayed arrogance when I tried to explained to you how you view ethnicity incorrectly when it comes to this subject.

i guess you missed the part about Charles Taylor's supposed Trinidadian heritage being conjecture. You should read more carefully.
even so, i'm not Liberian nor Trinidadian so what ever you're attempting to insinuate means nothing to me
don't know anything about American Liberians having Caribbean connections anyway. I do know Caribbean people went to present day Nigeria, Ghana, and especially Sierra Leone

Liberia is an american creation and even then people of West African Ancestry acknowledge tribe.

If Igbo Nigerians come to America and have kids their kids are seen as Americans not Nigerians but ethnically they will always be Igbo. If I go to Liberian right now nobody is going to call me Liberian American, especially when my Tribe can be found in larger numbers in the Ivory Coast and others in Guinea especially when they were in this places prior to white people drawing the boarders.

Those are indicators to to identify Immigrants. There is no method that collects info about the descendents of these people where “Country” - American can be used as a legitimate ethnicity.
