My Pops Forever RIP
People really think people are going to be flocking to a movie theatre where your ass is seated in a room with hundreds of other people. They ain’t wiping down every chair, someone coughs or sneezes and those droplets lingering in the air.
There's gonna be a huge section of the world permanently paranoid and willing to do supermax level bids in their home from now on (this site being a big example)

Kids aren't gonna be as willing to be holed up. shyt, obviously a lot of adults aren't willing to do that either.

Someone in this thread said you pay $20 to get your kids to shut up and watch a movie on VOD, but there's probably a lot of parents who especially now want nothing more for their kids (and themselves) to have a reason to get the hell outta the house. Movies were always the cheap alternative to concerts, plays and sporting events. Take that away and we'll have a brand new generation of hermits and awkward recluses.

AMC trying to puff out their chest :russ:. Universal has the leverage in this situation. They setting a bad precedent because what happens when the next big company goes vod. You gonna cut them off too.:troll:

GTFOH.

I'd charge them hoes MORE when this shyt is over to play our shyt. Nobody can go to the fukkin theater right now. How you making threats about some shyt when people can't even goto your theaters?!!

First of all, Regal joined AMC in the Universal ban
Regal Owner Cineworld Chimes In On ‘Trolls World Tour’ Controversy – Deadline

Second of all, theaters only get 10% of ticket sells opening weekend.

If Universal plans to show new movies on VOD opening weekend, every theater is going to ban them. Studios make more money off ticket sales than VOD, so this will bite Universal's ass in the long run if they continue with this plan.

NOPE, you wrong. They get almost half. And the percentage goes up the longer the movie is in theaters. This has been known for a while. Disney was trying to Deebo theaters wanting more than the usual 55% cut some time back and got called out for it.

Where Does the Money You Spend on a Movie Ticket Go?

"The general breakdown for a Hollywood movie gives the movie theater 45% of every ticket sold and the studio that created the movie 55%. This means if a movie ticket is $10, the theater that shows the movie receives $4.50 and the studio, lets say Paramount, receives $5.50. For the theater, the $4.50 pays for employees, maintenance, food and drink and other various costs while for the studio, the $5.50 can be further divided into the sub-categories below."

Forgot Regal got bought, but it wasn't by AMC. It' was by Cineworld, a foreign company. Me and my wife had bought a lot of Regal Stock years ago. Knew it wasn't AMC that bought them because when they got bought, we got cash for our stock from the sale.

and I don't know why AMC is tripping because this shyt is blatantly a temporary move. Trying to Deebo Comcast ain't smart either.

I can see this being a problem for a small indie film trying to find it's audience, not for Endgame which is made capture as many demographics as possible.

Also VOD has data, they just don't make it public. It's an evolving field. But it isn't hard to get locations pinged to servers and match that up with other available data to form a market profile. Data is literally everywhere.

Not to get too in the weeds but, for example : Ping location, find nearby grocery stores, zipcode demographics racial makeup, income etc etc. Is there a McDonald's nearby? Yes? Okay maybe we'll pay to run an promotional tie-in ad.

Targeted advertising is done all the time, and it's getting more sophisticated.

Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, they all have algorithms.

The train isn't coming off the tracks.

Oh and the comic book example is an outlier when looking at all purchases made. It just doesn't happen enough to call into question, who's account it is.

location data tells you where the account was accessed from. In a world of account sharing you see how that would skew your data?

when you buy two adult tickets or 3 kid tickets or use your senior citizens discount. You hand over a lot of information. On top of The membership users. They know which areas and how much is spent in those areas.

I’m not saying they won’t be able to figure it out but after DVR era, they definitely had to start taking in new data(7 day or streaming)to justify what shows got cancelled or green lit.

The lifespan of movies is diminishing though. They pump that fist weekend to get the most and a lot of movies collapse. Add the amount of new movies that jockey for screens every weekend

it's why the theater's cut of the ticket increases the longer the movie is in the theaters. first couple of weeks they get 45-50%, then it rises usually starting the 3rd week in play.

But the bulk of the revenue is in the first weeks.

Those premium IMAX screens are usually limited cause there’s another movie coming a week or two later.

A movie that performs strong over six weeks is better than a movie that craters + 55% in its 2nd weekend

for the theater chain, absolutely. With a movie like JW3 and FF9, it's legs are going to be decent so to say FU to Universal is dumb. That's easy money for the theater.

But this will all be bullshyt once this crap is over, they'll make amends. You don't turn down easy bread esp considering you are on the brink of bankruptcy and will want the revenue those universal films generate to get people in your theater.
