Am I bugging or does it seem like people dont even really listen to modern rap like that anymore?

Roc has been around for over 20 years. He is ol school now.
I agree but he's still releasing music currently. So does modern mean an artist that has come out in the last 5 years or less?

Drake been around for 15 years now...is he not modern?

Future been around for 12+ years now...

I'm looking for what defines modern...is it the sound? Length of time an artist has been around? Or?

Inshallah it stays that way. Almost all of them were always trash to begin with. And others like Carti (2014,15,16) started off dope and slowly turned into tranny music

Carti's in the 2017 class.

Latto, Toosii, Keem, Jack are really the only ones not from 2022 that still have hype

The internet killed Dababys career, Cordae killed his own career. I just hope this drought makes more traditional rappers shine. Not expecting Griselda to go mainstream but why are there not any popping younger artists that are inspired by cole, kendrick instead of by carti and uzi. Just doesn't make sense.

Correct, but his music when he was still just a soundcloud rapper from 2015/16 was honestly better

Most of them still make music.

The ones who don't are either:
  • Dead (XXX, PnB)
  • In jail (Pooh Sheistey, Blueface)
  • Vultures (Lil dikky)
  • Rubi Rose (they seriously degraded the value of a Freshmen cover placement with her inclusion)

What kind of logic is this?

If you like music why does it matter whether it's a nationwide hit or not?

Use the Internet to find what you like then let the algorithms do the rest of the work for you

Waiting for another region to make a wave to dikkride is a wild perspective to have on music, seems like a cacish mind state on culture
Nah I'm not talking about me personally, I'm eating find and I believe there's more good music than ever. But if we're talking about the next big thing in rap - it's obviously not happening right now, it will take time

It's good R&B and rap out there, but streaming changed the game for better and worse

When physical media was the norm I felt like musicians could get a longer run compared to nowadays.

Amine dropped a dope project with Kaytranada last year. And Desiigner was featured on Vultures 2 (even though he got a weird case )

the rest of them I have no idea about

A whole lot more drop music, it's just that they didn't break into the mainstream and release projects quarterly so in your mind they don't exist anymore. the 2018 cover was a huge swing and miss but "only like 10 still drop music" :why:

Of these covers you had Yachty,Meg,DDG,Rod Wave,Latto,Babytron,Flo Mili,42 Dugg,NLE Choppa,Polo G,Jack Harlow,Roddy,Cordae,Kodak,Uzi, Anderson Paak,21 Savage who are all notable or currently have major radio play.

Breh, just admit you don't really listen to music like that.

trying to spin it as "relevant" when Yatchy literally had his own Air Force 1 drop last month and DDG being a well known youtuber/streamer is crazy.

If you don't really listen to music and are stuck in whatever pocket or time period you can just admit that instead of saying silly stuff online.
