Am I bugging or does it seem like people dont even really listen to modern rap like that anymore?

I think you're pretty right, besides Glorillla. Rap was pretty stagnant and there's no exciting new sound right now, mainstream rap pretty much lost the crown to pop music. The breaking to regions makes sense, because at times like this new sounds emerge from the underground and currently we are on hold until one of the regions will develop the next big thing

Thats wtf im saying :pachaha:

Like who is even rapping anymore? Have labels closed down marketing departments or some shyt? :mindblown:

There may be something in the tea leaves here. It seems like there is no real push for new male rap star acts and its been like that for a minute.

Like I said in the OP the last time I felt a male rap star prescence fr was DaBaby's come up. He is actually the last one to give me that feeling.

BossManDlow, Boston Richey, and random Detroit/Michigan rapper number 5 aint it. I thought this year it would be a Skila Baby or OT Quanny but it aint taking off like how I thought it would.
You do know that rap is still the number one genre right :skip:

This has been addressed in this section before:

Internet/streaming has decentralized the culture, completely erased the need for technical prowess (which elevated hip hop to its peak and made it unique to other genres), and allowed people to create their own entertainment bubbles.

95% of rappers with any noticeability are "niche" or "cult following" artists because there is no unified field on what's what.

This.

Music isn't this all encompassing medium anymore.

There's only a few legit music superstars at this point.

Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Rihanna, Drake, & Kendrick.

There are no other superstars in modern music

And Rihanna hasn't made a record in what 8 years or something?

Music lost it's importance. That's why MTV, BET, & VH1 REALLY stopped playing music, not some nonsense about "music's on the YOUTUBE, now". :mjlol:

This has more to a lot more to do with Viacom realizing that low-brow reality shows, replaying classic movies and ambient noise shows on repeat gave them the same amount of viewership than having a full network lineup at a time when they weren't the sole outlet for cool.

You saw also this happen across a lot of cable TV networks that have just went to the wayside with original/diverse programming.

People have to act like that person who might be hot in their area is killing it all over America… that guy with a million views on YouTube that be having other people like “Who?!?!” This is why video countdown shows, mixtape radio shows, etc were important. I wouldn’t know half the rappers I know if I had to just rely on word of mouth and shyt. A lot of entertainers in the past 10-15 years have been robbed of possible superstardom simply because they don’t have a vehicle where they could show off their skills to a worldwide audience. Nowadays, you have to catch some shyt on YouTube, or catch a post from months ago when so and so rocked it on Fallon or Kimmel or some shyt
