Negative. Only 21 would be considered a success.

Killer Mike literally won a Grammy this year, Rod Wave is on a Arena tour right now, Vince Staples got a Netflix show

y'all be moving goal posts to avoid accepting that you're old/out of touch.

first it was nobody listens to new rap, then it was only 10 of the 70 artists on the XXL freshman cover, and then you just ignore that rappers are getting tons of streams online, are on the radio, millions of views on youtube.

This.

Music isn't this all encompassing medium anymore.

There's only a few legit music superstars at this point.

Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Rihanna, Drake, & Kendrick.

There are no other superstars in modern music

And Rihanna hasn't made a record in what 8 years or something?

Music lost it's importance. That's why MTV, BET, & VH1 REALLY stopped playing music, not some nonsense about "music's on the YOUTUBE, now". :mjlol:
This is latin music erasure and it will not stand. Bad Bunny is bigger than almost everyone you named. And Peso Pluma exploded in the past year or 2. Also I hear The Weeknd in every country i travel to. It's never rap music.

This has more to a lot more to do with Viacom realizing that low-brow reality shows, replaying classic movies and ambient noise shows on repeat gave them the same amount of viewership than having a full network lineup at a time when they weren't the sole outlet for cool.

You saw also this happen across a lot of cable TV networks that have just went to the wayside with original/diverse programming.
Which again proves my point.

Imagine Viacom deeming low-brow reality shows more viewable than Michael Jackson or Madonna in the '80s/'90s?

It just wouldn't have happened.

Like I said, they did it because other than Beyonce, Taylor, Drake, Kendrick, and a few other people, nobody in ANY GENRE is moving the needle like that anymore.
trying to spin it as "relevant" when Yatchy literally had his own Air Force 1 drop last month and DDG being a well known youtuber/streamer is crazy.

If you don't really listen to music and are stuck in whatever pocket or time period you can just admit that instead of saying silly stuff online.
And?

What's your point?

Nothing you're talking about has to do with music.

You're literally making my point. Their shoes & streaming is more relevant than their music.

Since when do Grammy's mean you're hot?

Dude, go look at the list of who wins Grammys every year.

Samara Joy won "Best New Artist" last year.

Where she at?

Victoria Monet won it this year & has only had TWO top 100 songs in her whole career

Go to your local high-school/college.

Ask how many of them are listening to "Killer Mike" currently :mjlol:

Stop.

95% of this country speaks ENGLISH, motherfukker.

Bad Bunny is probably more known in America for working with WWE (outside of Hispanics) than he is for any music he's making.

You ask the average American about Latin music, they'll probably still say Selena or J. Lo or Shakira.

But, I agree, they've tried to push Rosalia & Bunny & Karol G, but I guarantee you most (non-Latin) people aint listening to that.

No the booth just isn’t tapped in and probably never will. Someone could post all the new wave artist but it’ll get crickets but a boldy James thread will go plat here
no rapper that debuted in the last almost 10 years is as big as J Cole, Future, Drake, Kendrick nor the previous generation of TI, Jeezy, Kanye, Wayne, Nelly, Luda nor the previous generation of Jay Z, DMX, Pac, Big, NWA ect

no rapper who has debuted after the blogger era(and Future) has been as popular or a household name as any of these rappers i listed beside Cardi B and Meg the Stallion (with her not for their music)

case in point :

Bossman Dlo
Bigxthaplug
Glorilla
Boston Richey
That Mexican OT

OP just don't get out more

You're dead wrong. Bad Bunny has been the in the top 3 most streamed artist on Spotify the past 4 years. Three of those years being number one. With a record setting tour. Having a number one album in this country.

Vince is a great artist it's a shame he's not selling more, but even if you look at his XXL year - who here besides him and dej is still dropping anything?

Fetty fell off/jail

goldlink killed his career over the mac shyt

Even if someone like Raury is technically dropping an album and maintaining 1mil monthly listeners, he's not at all culturally relevant. I like his first 3 albums a lot too.

This entire thread is about how culturally relevant rap is now. I'm not hating on Raury by pointing out nobody gaf about his music anymore.

The thing is, that XXL Freshman cover is nearly 10 years old....But in todays rap universe, the magazines deeming someone the next up, means very little because nobody looks to the magazines as tastemakers/trendsetters.

Rap has become so mainstream that many people don't even realize it.
