i mean dont get on the "fake" Imax theaters too much. Its a lot better than the standard film.

But if you are paying the same prices for that vs. the couple of dollars you could be paying for the true IMAX experience, you have lost.

It really really really is fukking pathetic that in NEW YORK CITY there is only ONE true IMAX theater......and that 1 IMAX screen is trash because the seating is outdated & it's just uncomfortable.

The other 3 are all in Westchester county, not incredibly far from the city but still...and then the only other one in NY state is near Canada. :heh:

@ New Jersey's sole IMAX theater being all the way in AC.

This is truly absurd in 2012.

Are you fukkin serious?!?!?!?! I thought the AMC 25 in Manhattan was the real deal, you telling me the lincoln square shyt makes it look that pathetic.

Imma have to hit up lincoln square. Good lawd @ that screen. I anticipated the fukk out this movie, it's only right.
that shyt is garbage in Lincoln Square though. it's outdated as fukk.

NY PEOPLE...IF YOU HAVE A CAR, GO TO THE NEW ROCHELLE IMAX THEATER FOR FILMS LIKE THIS. THEY HAVE THE COMFORTABLE STADIUM SEATING, ENORMOUS SCREEN, RIDICULOUS SOUND, ETC.

Having said that...even I won't be able to watch it in true IMAX this weekend.

I went and saw one of the Harry Potter movies on the real IMAX screen here in Birmingham. It was literally too much for me. I got dizzy just getting to my seat. It took me 45 mins to get used to it and I was getting motion sickness out the ass. I went to the "fake" IMAX in Patton Creek when i saw Transformers 3. It was a better experience for me. I will say this though, the sound in "any" of the IMAX theaters shyts all over the normal theaters. I'm cool with it though, maybe I'll go back when I get my eyes checked when I come from my vacation.

Aiight, I had to do some real research to figure this shyt out.

Apparently, the one in Raleigh uses IMAX DMR, which basically upscales 35 mm film to "near 70 mm" quality. Not true IMAX :why:

The last (and only as far as I can recall) movie I saw at that theater was Avatar. Probably the most beautiful fictional world I had ever seen. I'm not driving 2.5 hr to watch DKR in Charlotte so DMR will have to do...

I did some searching after seeing your post, and it looks like DMR is what is used to upscale all 35 mm films, it doesn't depend on the theater. So it is true IMAX. :win:

That said, they are all sold out for this weekend aside from 3am and 6am showings on Friday.

Saw Avatar in Lincoln Square (biggest screen in the country, as stated in the OP) in IMAX 3D.... the story was ass, of course, but the visuals were :whoo::gladbron::ooh::ahh:

Those fake IMAX screens just can't compete.

I always thought it was strange when regular theaters started showing imax with no renovations... Which is why i always stick to traditional 2d

At least ya'll get general release movies often. We just get documentaries and the occasional movie. The only ones I remember them showing are the Batman movies and Transformers.

Houston – Edwards Houston Marquee 23 & IMAX – 409 seats, opened 4/11/2003

Got my tickets for Saturday :jawalrus:

You're in Houston now? I will be watching it there at 8:30am Saturday morning. Now, I know why people went there so much, because they had the real IMAX. I settled for the fake IMAX all these years. :snoop:
