After rewatching The Wire, I think it's safe to say Stringer>Avon.

Bunk and Mcnulty had D'Angelo writing letters implicating himself after telling him the guy Avon killed had kids.

Once he found out Wallace was killed how did he react?

D was not built for the game and that's why he would have flipped. Simple.

You are misinterpreting so much from that show. All D'Angleo wanted was to be out the game. He even tells his mother that when she visited him in prison. He just wanted to be left alone.:

He clearly wanted nothing to do with them. His own mother didn't give a damn about him.

D Angelo would have flipped once he started to feel them years. D Angelo hated the game.

Anyway this has been a great discussion.

Stop it with the bold breh. Avon struggled to deal with one stick up man. In fact it wouldn't have gotten as far as it did if Avon hadn't taken it so personal.

Slim Charles and the rest of the OGs sends someone to take a hit out on Omar. Couldn't have done any worse than Avon did.
:dahell: Omar was supposed to be an antagonist, so of course he's going to struggle with Omar. There's a story arc around him and his boyfriend getting killed. That's how Avon dealt with issues. You're acting like "one stick up man" isn't a pivotal character in the story. Case in point, there was protocol to deal with them which is why as soon as Wallace saw Omar's boy in the arcade, he KNEW exactly what to do. That shows that the shyt wasn't new, they knew how to deal with dudes like that. Slim Charles, with Avon at the helm, took out a couple of other issues.

Slim Charles under Prop Joe did what? It's been a couple of months since I've gone through the series but all I remember him doing when Marlo was popping was drive around telling people to relax.

That and killing Cheese at the very end.

So as far as the original point goes, nah I don't think Stringer > Avon. Stringer failed at almost every thing he did and Avon enjoyed his time on the throne.

Avon loved the street sh*t a little too much. Remember when he got shot at.. that sh*t made his day:ooh:

Wasn't mad at Stringer tryin' to get the real estate poppin'. He got played to a degree by Clay Davis. Paying off certain political heads, unions, construction companies, etc. is damn near part of the game in big real estate projects in major cities. Stringer didn't really know that.

-they were both good characters that offset each other. If it was two dudes who loved street shyt or two dudes desperately wanting out the game then the shows dynamic would've been different.

Yeah breh of course Stringer made mistakes, that's because he's a fictional character created by David Simon and not a real person:troll:

You can't blame him :troll:

In prison, yes the fukk it is.

What reality are yall living in? Do you know it's nikkas locked up right now that will stab a nikka for a 2 piece and a biscuit? :mindblown:
I'm not comparing him to other prisoners. I'm comparing him to himself as a free man. Going to prison isn't "basically a vacation home", even with stale fast food and an Xbox.

I'm sure house slaves got all kinds of perks. They were still slaves.

Season 3 Avon gave me a headache. Dude just could not see the big picture.:snoop:
You're looking at it short-sighted breh. Avon was actually the one looking at the bigger picture.

First of all, the co-op was a bad idea and should have never existed. There were way too muthaphuckas in there with different agendas and ambition for you to effectively manage that shyt. For the co-op to have worked you would have HAD to fight a bloody war to root out all the smaller players then form a "co-op" or an understanding between the two largest organization. That's the part that Stringer ignored. Stringer was an idiot and actually legitimized the smaller players that didn't bring shyt to the table.

You have to have muscle and territory and be able to hold that muscle and territory in order for some co-op shyt to work. It was so obvious that even Poot and Bodie pointed it out and Stringer didn't even have an answer for them. That's what Avon was talking about when he kept insisting he wanted his corners. Without the territory and real estate you don't have shyt and you can't make any moves. You have no options.

Stringer put his organization at a huge disadvantage by trying to take violence off the table. Violence is a necessary and essential part of the game - just like territory is. The game is the game and that shyt does not change.

What Marlo did was on Prop Joe not Stringer. I'm not saying Stringer didn't have his faults but overall he was what the organization needed to take it to new heights.

And the Co-Op was good idea. That's why Slim Charles and the old heads were still using it even after the death of Stringer and Joe. They saw the value.
You're missing the point breh. There's but so high that you can take a dirty business like the drug business. You can't clean or dress that shyt up. It's meant to be dirty because of the type of people that are in it. It's a reflection of the participants.

Stringer was dirty as fukk too. He was arrogant, greedy, and thought he was the smartest person in the room.
nikka should of took a beginner psychology class along with the intro to macroeconomics class at the community college.

I'm gonna go ahead and bow out of this convo because I see you're about 5 steps behind where I am. :hubie:

It would have been better if you didn't jump into the conversation in the first place since you don't seem to understand the context of the discussion. My post was in response to this
String was the reason the Barksdale kliq fell apart, and in the end he was nothing more than an overachiever. Avon won because he's still filthy rich, and he's got it made in prison. His prison spot is basically a vacation home.

If you agree with that hyperbole then yeah, there's nothing more to be said.

"Hyperbole" :skip:

A baseball game was literally put in timeout just so he could walk across the field. That scene alone ought to tell you how much pull he had in prison. But incase you missed that, this dude is eating a #3 from Popeyes in prison. Dude is watching DVDs and playing video games in prison.

If that's not a vacation, what the fukk do you call it?

"It's not like he's a free man :dame:" Well, hello nikka, switchboard! No shyt. You ever heard of the phrase "it goes without saying?" Talking about some damn context and you're not even aware your damn self.

You gotta tighten it up breh

Again. It would have been better if you didn't jump in a random convo without understanding the context. If you did you would have seen that I already acknowledged your simplistic ass point.

I get the point being made about Avon living better than the average prisoner but calling it a vacation home is a little much. Eating stale ass Popeyes and watching dusty flicks on DVD cuz you're surrounded by nikkas isn't exactly a good time.

Calling it a vacation home because of perks is laughably stupid.

But if you want to continue on with that point on some "if that isn't a vacation then what is?" then feel free, I'll laugh and move on to more interesting points. There have been plenty in this thread but that isnt one of them.

You're not as smart as you think you are...and I don't believe I'm the first person to have told you that. :whiteparadise:

There is no Avon > Stringer or Stringer > Avon.
They rose from nothing as a unit. A checks and balance.

Together they were invincible, then when they turned on one another they both fell back to nothing almost immediately.
Dead and imprisoned.

So the take away there is not 'Stringer was smarter' as many conclude at first... but rather, when you sacrifice your brother to the game, you are next. :wow:

They each needed the other.
