But in all seriousness the Bush administration is to blame when they literally created a secondary economy based on waging war on, surveillance of, and the exploitation of Afghani resources for corporate lobbyists.

The war itself was mainly for resources and to affirm the US soft power over pivotal regions to the East (China/Russia).

I don’t even think justification was a real factor for staying through three presidents, moreso the interests of the state and lobbyists who benefited from the US being there.
