It was a massive mistake turning over the country to the corrupt Afghan government. Should of flushed Al-Qaeda out, lit up Taliban leadership and called it a day or take control of the country and modernize the country to combat the Taliban.
We should've made it a territory

We could’ve stayed there 30 years and spent 10 trillion. You ain’t fixing this. :mjlol:

If the Taliban could ban and criminalize it the first time they came to power, we could too. Hell, that was one of the reasons the Taliban came into power in the first place:

Formation of the Taliban

The practice of bacha bazi by warlords was one of the key factors in Mullah Omar mobilizing the Taliban.[22] Reportedly, in early 1994, Omar led 30 men armed with 16 rifles to free two young girls who had been kidnapped and raped by a warlord, hanging him from a tank gun barrel.[23] Another instance arose when in 1994, a few months before the Taliban took control of Kandahar, two militia commanders confronted each other over a young boy whom they both wanted to sodomize. In the ensuing fight, Omar's group freed the boy; appeals soon flooded in for Omar to intercede in other disputes. His movement gained momentum through the year and he quickly gathered recruits from Islamic schools totaling 12,000 by the year's end with some Pakistani volunteers. While initially remaining quiet and focused on continuing his studies during the Afghan Civil War, Omar became increasingly discontent with what he perceived as fasād in the country, including the practice of bacha bazi, ultimately prompting him to return to fighting in the Civil War. In 1994, Omar, along with religious students in Kandahar, formed the Taliban, which emerged victorious against other Afghan factions by 1996.

Omar led the Taliban to form a Sunni Islamic theocracy headed by the Supreme Council, known as the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, which strictly enforced sharia. After Dr Najibullah's stepped down, the country fell into chaos as various Afghan Mujahideen factions fought for total control of Afghanistan. Omar had a dream in 1994 in which a woman told him: "We need your help; you must rise. You must end the chaos. God will help you."[24] Omar started his movement with less than 50 armed madrassah students who were simply known as the Taliban (Pashtun for 'students'). His recruits came from madrassas located in Afghanistan and the Afghan refugee camps which were located across the border in Pakistan. They fought against the rampant corruption which had emerged during the civil war period and were initially welcomed by Afghans who were weary of warlord rule. Apparently, Omar became sickened by the abusive raping of children by warlords and turned against their authority in the mountainous country of Afghanistan from 1994 onwards.[25][26][27][28] Bacha bazi, a form of pederastic sexual slavery and pedophilia which is a trend practiced in various provinces of Afghanistan, was also forbidden under the six-year rule of the Taliban regime.[29] Under the rule of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, bacha bazi, a form of child sexual abuse between older men and young adolescent "dancing boys", has carried the death penalty.[30][31]

We brought in and empowered the warlords and military people that wanted it and when we knew they were doing it, we turned a blind eye because of security concerns:

No. Instead of doing the first option and never invading Afghanistan, we empowered cronies and warlords to run the country and made more of a priority/concern over security than actual grift.

We knew how corrupt the government was, but we rather deal with that we turned a blind eye in hopes to avoid political instability, but that failed miserably:

The USA and Israel has been making sure the leaders of this type are successful at taking over governments.

It only helps forward US, UK, and Israel propaganda

Look man, if you have to explain to a people/culture that raping little boys is bad and the alternative is a government that science fiction writers would consider unrealistically oppressive maybe it’s not worth the effort.

It’s a 1,000 year old practice and the Afghan government under US occupation outlawed it, it still happened. And just because the Taliban have outlawed it doesn’t mean it’s stopped occurring.

Respectfully I was over there (Marines) and it’s not a video game. It’s not that simple lol. Because of the terrain it’s literally one of the most difficult “if not the most” to establish firm control whether we speaking logistics or establishing territory. The people are not as cooperative. (We are the colonizers , so I definitely understand that obviously) but those relations never smoothed out in which made things even more difficult.. Remember there were a lot of lives lost trying to “light them up and “flush them out” . I know people who didn’t make it home. The government didn’t know what they were fukking doing. They even admit that, and we surely as soldiers knew that. Everyone knows that. But We don’t deserve to stay there if operations aren’t effective for whatever reasons. That region is not our sole responsibility. It was long enough and time to get the fukk out. The government admitted they more than fumbled the ball, but we can’t continue that campaign and keep deploying our youth forever there, while they keep trying to figure things out

You either have a limited engagement with no invasion or you make sure you instill values and institutions that fight against groups like the Taliban. You cant half ass it with how we did there or like in Iraq.
Or...you can stay tf out of other countries affairs and respect their autonomy to govern how they see fit. It's not our responsibility to spread democracy in the American sense...unless you think this is a religious fight :mjpls:

You are talking as if every family in the country has a Bacha Bazi boy in their closet, when that is not the case. We helped and exacerbated the issue with who we supported and ignoring the abuse. Those people should of never been in powered and should of been executed when found out, but we let them be because we were more worried about the Taliban than boys getting assaulted.

The Taliban had that autonomy but gave it up when they wanted to protect the terrorists that were a part of 9/11, fukk them:

After the September 11 attacks, American president George W. Bush demanded that the Taliban government extradite Osama bin Laden to the United States and also expel al-Qaeda militants from Afghanistan; bin Laden had been active in Afghanistan since the Soviet–Afghan War and was already wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for his role in the 1998 United States embassy bombings. The Taliban declined to extradite bin Laden and further ignored demands to shut down terrorist bases or extradite other suspected terrorists. In response, the United States launched Operation Enduring Freedom on 7 October 2001, alongside the United Kingdom.

As a teenager i did not want us to invade, rather to bomb that shythole even closer to the Stone Age that it already is.

We did gang,
We trained them, Afghanis ran ops with us. They had the funding and equipment.

But you can’t train courage.
When we left alot of the fighters we trained threw in the towel.

Lotta Rangers, and Marines got fukked up over training and supporting them.
