They should've just emulated the HCTP controls. The reason this game flopped was because they tried to fuse HCTP & No Mercy together. Sorry to the No Mercy fans, But the game you want to copy is the GOAT HCTP.

Like I said, It's decent if you have other wrestling games.
I honestly think they should have gone with the standard simulation style format WWE2k follows and called it a day. I would have bought it. I never played No Mercy so their attempt at recreating that was never appealing to me.
