this is pretty much my feeling as welladvanced stats are amazing in baseball, that much is true. baseball is all about stats anyway as there is really no extending circumstances like in bball or football.
then theyre second best in football because they help to see the big picture since most people dont get it while just watching
they're least relevant IMO in basketball because of different lineups on the floor and very situational circumstances. also add the fact that individual players dominate much more in football and you dont really need advanced stats to see the whole picture. theyre good for looking at average players efficiency tho.
in baseball you can make a trade based almost purely on advanced stats tho

The stat sheets don't tell the whole story in basketball and football.
If we're going by PER, Kevin Love is one of the five best players in basketball. Nobody in their right mind actually thinks he's better than Dwight Howard. I would argue he's still not better than Dirk Nowitzki or even Chris Bosh, but based on PER, he is.

You can blame John Hollinger.
Not to mention a lot of people pick and choose which stats make their arguments better anyway. No use in arguing with a stat geek.

And here is where the nonsensical arguments start, PER doesn't say who the best player in the NBA is, it's an acronym for PLAYER EFFICIENCY RATING. It clearly in it's own description doesn't say who the best is, just who is more efficient than the next.
