Facts.
She made the right decision. Like a lot of women at that age (her age on the show) they've spent a lot of their time being in relationships instead of being single. She needs this "selfish" break to find out who she actually is outside of being a girlfriend. The plot lines up with the real world. It's not a plot device to extend the show a season or 2.
