What TLC songs sound like what Aaliyah did with Tim and Missy? Yes it was Timbaland's beats, but it was with Aaliyah that the style was introduced. That's a fact.

Sure, she dressed like TLC, but it was still different from what they were doing.

The TLC mention was in context to what you said about her image.
Tim and magoo already made that sound hot breh.
Missy should get more credit for Aaliyah then Aaliyah. As she damn near wrote the entire album and coached her.

Yes it does hold a record, but so goes Goodies, check that song wiki page if you don't believe me. Goodies is ranked lower than Try Again on Billboards top 100 songs of the 2000s.

Yeah, I just saw that "Goodies" and "1,2 Step" are ranked higher than "Try Again".

One In A Million dropped August 1996. Tim & Magoo dropped November 1997. Aaliyah had like 3 hit singles or more singles with that sound before Tim & Magoo dropped.

Missy gets equal credit. Aaliyah wouldn't have some of those hits if not for Missy and Tim. Likewise, Missy wouldn't be where she is without Aaliyah. One In A Million is her first major writing project.

Aaliyah got classics.... Ciara was a flash in the pan.... Ciara had 2 years top... Aaliyah impact still goes on today

she has a movie that got post pone due to the outrage and her songs are on hold for better publishing checks

back in one piece>>>1,2, step

come on man are you serious

one and million . and if your girl only knew...>>>> promise and that JT song

that's the problem...you guys look back and check chart performances

BUT YOU NEVER LIVED THE IMPACT OR FELT THE PRESENTS OF A CULT MOVEMENT

That song even sounds like something Aaliyah would've done.

it does but it doesn't cause ciara vocal performance was ehhh ...body party sounds like aaliyah could of touched that too but

aaliyah songs were innovative.. they never sounded like a remake of anything....except more then a woman....

This is probably the song that issue the most obvious. It's crazy because "Promise" was like one of her last huge records.

I even like Aaliyah's remakes.

People downplay Aaliyah's singing entirely too much. There are a lot of singers who aren't exactly Aretha Franklin or even a prime Mary J. Blige, but they can still sing. Aaliyah could indeed sing. She stayed in her lane and knew which songs complimented her voice.

In terms of who is better, Ciara's the better dancer, but Aaliyah made better music.

Exactly. Here's a good song that justifies that, even Donny woulda been proud of this cover of his version.

I appreciate the level headed reply my nikka...

Of course she was beautiful, but her vocal range was limited as hell. She didn't write her songs, she was more of a performer. ..why nikka treat her like she was a goddess tho?

aalyiah wasnt a good performer either. at least ciara can dance. aalyiah couldnt even do that. but to aalyiah's credit, her voice is at least satisfactory on her good days.

thread is spot on. aalyiah is overrated by people who dont know a dam thing about r&b, and of course people who love to overrate the deceased.

and pay no mind to the people coming in here with their corny responses. all theyre doing is exposing themselves. all these dudes are nowhere to be found when real r&b threads are made.

and i liked aalyiah in the '90s, but she was nowhere near a queen. she couldnt even grab the princess crown.

Aaliyah also was a fashionista, look at how chicks were & are to this day biting her style

all aalyiah did was follow how other r&b singers were already dressing. TLC set that off.

and r.kelly is prolly the one that dressed her.(no pedo).

lol, i mean yeah i guess Aaliyah does get a lot and more cause she died in her prime. But its the way that it is. Death takes famous folks on a whole new level. People who didnt care for them suddenly riding their dikks. Now i said u fukked up cause u put her on the same level as Ciara. THATS where u fukked up. I mean Ciara isnt loved for her singing (not much) but her dancing. Ciara isnt a good singer... im sure even she knows that.

ehh, she didnt die in her prime either.

that album she had just dropped was cold out there.

She's more known for her music than her dancing. Her dancing takes a backseat to her music. "At Your Best" (both versions), "Back and Forth", "One In A Million", "Try Again", "Rock The Boat", etc. are far more memorable than her dance moves. When people reference Aaliyah, it's more in regard to her bringing a new sound to R&B and her image than her dancing.

what new sound did aalyiah bring to r&b?

:dahell:

All them little groups like 702 were bitin' her style. I think the only Female R&B singer after her that even got famous like that since was Ashanti, but she still never was at the top as long as Aliyah who was pretty much in the spotlight from about 93 until she died.

702 bit aalyiah how?

aalyiah had 2 albums poppin. ashanti had 3.

We about the same age so my bad on assuming you were a youngster. I just dont get who are these people you speak of. I never heard anyone call her Princess Aailyah or act like she's some kind of royalty that cant be spoken about badly. The disrespect is you coming in trying to discredit the 3 number 1 hits she had (saying she had none) and act like she's on the same level as Ciara and at the same time ignoring the sound that her and Timberland brought to the game that ushered a new type of R&B. No need to bring up Brandy and Monica to try to belittle her either truth be told they were all eating but they were all popping at different times and years (Brandy and Aaliyah in 94, Monica in 95, Aaliyah in 96, Brandy in 98) Come on man even after mentioning those names Ciara doesnt belong anywhere in this conversation.

:comeon: look at the reactions by half the people in this thread. theres a legion of folks that assume that shes r&b royalty.

aaliyah didnt bring in no new type of r&b. timbaland was just continuing on with the swing mob sound that was already poppin for 3 years before that aalyiah album.

monica & brandy were bigger than aaliyah.

ciara & aalyiah both had 2 albums that were poppin. so how is one a flash-in-the-pan and not the other? the difference is aalyiah took a hiatus, as opposed to ciara who dropped her joints back-to-back.

whos basing it off of numbers? the girls loved ciara in her prime the same way the girls of a decade prior loved aaliyah. same chit/different toilet.
