I appreciate the level headed reply my nikka...

Of course she was beautiful, but her vocal range was limited as hell. She didn't write her songs, she was more of a performer. ..why nikka treat her like she was a goddess tho?
You sure you know what vocal range actually means?

Ciara has a number 1 hit on billboard... Aaliyah doesn't. Ciara in 04-06 was probably just as popular as Aaliyah in her peak. Nikkas stay being delusional when it comes to Aaliyah, she wasn't even the most popular female RnB singer when she was alive, Brandy, Monica and Destiny's Child were all more popular than Aaliyah. She probably was a nice person and its terrible she died so young but let's not rewrite history here brehs :comeon:

She's more known for her music than her dancing. Her dancing takes a backseat to her music. "At Your Best" (both versions), "Back and Forth", "One In A Million", "Try Again", "Rock The Boat", etc. are far more memorable than her dance moves. When people reference Aaliyah, it's more in regard to her bringing a new sound to R&B and her image than her dancing.

wrong. TLC had already brought that style. She didnt create shyt. It was Timmy's sound

I'm sorry but what classic albums has Ciara made :mjpls:

On In a Million > Any album Ciara has put out.

What movies has Ciara starred in? :mjpls:

Im not talking about content in the albums that R-Kelly and Timmy wrote. Im talking about she was a dancer/performer that could harmonize. And that movie sucked breh as did her acting

Aaliyah just had IT. Hands down one of the most beautiful women to ever walk the Earth, had her own style, her songs were hits. Lots of artists don't write their own shyt.

Her own style?? Nikka she took her look from TLC:dahell: And Timbalands style was the style that was great. Its was the new "hip" thing

Why do threads like this exist? I mean Ciara my nikka really? The utter disrespect you younger cats have for the people who done it before your time is straight up crazy. Everyday some crazy threads like this get made. I can't even name one track Ciara has done that is on the same level as One In A Million, 4 Page Letter, We Need A Resolution, Back And Forth, Are You That Somebody, I Care 4 U, Rock the Boat. Like someone said she might not have had the strongest voice but she knew how to make songs that were iconic and were a staple for a new sound in music. No one saying she was the greatest of all time or putting her on some pedestal that can never be touched I'm just saying recognize, appreciate, and respect what she's given music wise ad that its above and beyond anything Ciara has ever done.

Im 34 my nikka. Im more then qualified to speak on this subject.
I didnt once disrespect her. I appreciate her music also. I just dont understand why shes refered to as "Princess Aaliyah" when theres 100 singers better then her.

:mindblown: and people ARE going around putting her on a pedestal, claiming that shes the GOAT. Thats what sparked me to make this thread.

Yea, you right. But goodies was more popular than Try Again. Goodies, 1 2 step, like you, Promise, love sex and magic were all huge.

Aaliyah stans being outraged that she's being compared to Ciara is silly as Ciara was just as big if not a bigger star than Aaliyah.

:childplease: Are you trying to tell me she had it? Because from everyone elses replies, i think we can all agree that she was NOT some extraordinary singer.
Do I think Aaliyah was an exemplary singer? No, (though she was no scrub) but she did have plenty of range. This is undeniable.

There are plenty of extraordinary singers with limited range, plenty of average singers with it. Its not directly correlated to good singing, its how singers use what they have that separates the passable and the good from the great.

Sade for example has very limited range but she's so evocative that she's revered for what she does.

We about the same age so my bad on assuming you were a youngster. I just dont get who are these people you speak of. I never heard anyone call her Princess Aailyah or act like she's some kind of royalty that cant be spoken about badly. The disrespect is you coming in trying to discredit the 3 number 1 hits she had (saying she had none) and act like she's on the same level as Ciara and at the same time ignoring the sound that her and Timberland brought to the game that ushered a new type of R&B. No need to bring up Brandy and Monica to try to belittle her either truth be told they were all eating but they were all popping at different times and years (Brandy and Aaliyah in 94, Monica in 95, Aaliyah in 96, Brandy in 98) Come on man even after mentioning those names Ciara doesnt belong anywhere in this conversation.

What TLC songs sound like what Aaliyah did with Tim and Missy? Yes it was Timbaland's beats, but it was with Aaliyah that the style was introduced. That's a fact.

Sure, she dressed like TLC, but it was still different from what they were doing.

"Try Again" is arguably more popular. I think it holds some kind of record for being one of the first songs to reach #1 strictly off airplay.

With better song writer's:ld:. ...so what's with the hype? I've heard nikkas call her the queen of r&b. I never got that

Discuss.

S/N: left eye wasn't even a top 10 female rapper. Prove me wrong because after that TLC bio, I downloaded her album and all I can say is:dahell:

Yes it does hold a record, but so goes Goodies, check that song wiki page if you don't believe me. Goodies is ranked lower than Try Again on Billboards top 100 songs of the 2000s.
