With better song writer's:ld:. ...so what's with the hype? I've heard nikkas call her the queen of r&b. I never got that

Discuss.

S/N: left eye wasn't even a top 10 female rapper. Prove me wrong because after that TLC bio, I downloaded her album and all I can say is:dahell:

imma need you to break down a typical conversation in the nurses break room.

are there generally a bunch of female nurses who are discussing the happenings on dancing with the stars from the night before and you walk in like it's no big deal and jump right into the conversation?

or are they like on kick ass when the girl is sure that kick ass is gay and just plays it like he's one of the girls? please explain

lol, i mean yeah i guess Aaliyah does get a lot and more cause she died in her prime. But its the way that it is. Death takes famous folks on a whole new level. People who didnt care for them suddenly riding their dikks. Now i said u fukked up cause u put her on the same level as Ciara. THATS where u fukked up. I mean Ciara isnt loved for her singing (not much) but her dancing. Ciara isnt a good singer... im sure even she knows that.

I appreciate the level headed reply my nikka...

Of course she was beautiful, but her vocal range was limited as hell. She didn't write her songs, she was more of a performer. ..why nikka treat her like she was a goddess tho?

She WAS a tremendous performer with a great presence
People look past the fact she wasn't the actual artist in terms of writing because she had great songs

You are 100% correct, probably the most overrated singer ever. She had a great image but didn't have the raw talent. I knew her in real life but let's be serious she is no where near the greats.

I appreciate the reply that made sense. ..nan one of these nikkas that neg me can even refute the point I made of how limited she was vocally. ..let's be real brehs, her main talent was dance and choreography. I'm not hating on her at all. I just want to know why nikkas claim she was so damn special, when fact is if she dropped today she would str8 be known as Cieara status

Edit: @Milk N Cookies

But aaliyah was better known for her dance also

People downplay Aaliyah's singing entirely too much. There are a lot of singers who aren't exactly Aretha Franklin or even a prime Mary J. Blige, but they can still sing. Aaliyah could indeed sing. She stayed in her lane and knew which songs complimented her voice.

In terms of who is better, Ciara's the better dancer, but Aaliyah made better music.

She's more known for her music than her dancing. Her dancing takes a backseat to her music. "At Your Best" (both versions), "Back and Forth", "One In A Million", "Try Again", "Rock The Boat", etc. are far more memorable than her dance moves. When people reference Aaliyah, it's more in regard to her bringing a new sound to R&B and her image than her dancing.

Uptown, NYC
I don't think I heard anyone saying that Aaliyah was the best vocalist back in the day. Her music was gettin' mad play in NY though. You couldn't go Uptown without hearin' those joints that she did with Kells, during the summer of '94. When she got with Tim' and them, her music got wild better, but people still went crazy for her because she had that sound that they brought in. It wasn't about her voice, as much as it was about her making some dope ass records. Her live show was serious too.

The problem with other female vocalists who don't have wild vocal range, is that most of them can't perform live, and they don't have the catalogue. You need the records. Aaliyah was no Faith Evans or Kelly Price, but she made high quality music. She changed R&B with Tim, that's huge! I remember in '96, everyone was like "WTF is this shyt?" They really ushered in a sound that mad people tried to bite right after.

She was a big star. Ciara has never been close to that level. Chicks used to love her when I was in college. In high school, Aliyah along Mariah, Janet and Mary J that chicks loved and used to try to dress like. At least in popular culture she started that female in "gangsta style" clothes. In college it was Aliyah. I remember them foreign chicks used to worship her style. All them little groups like 702 were bitin' her style. I think the only Female R&B singer after her that even got famous like that since was Ashanti, but she still never was at the top as long as Aliyah who was pretty much in the spotlight from about 93 until she died.

Don't get the debate about her singing ability. She had a nice range and sang with it. Nah, she wasn't Chante Moore, but she had a great tone. I remember reading an article about producers loving her and how she was about to blow up in Hollywood. People say Beyonce, but I think she was going to be what J.Lo became being in more movies while still being big in music.

Why do threads like this exist? I mean Ciara my nikka really? The utter disrespect you younger cats have for the people who done it before your time is straight up crazy. Everyday some crazy threads like this get made. I can't even name one track Ciara has done that is on the same level as One In A Million, 4 Page Letter, We Need A Resolution, Back And Forth, Are You That Somebody, I Care 4 U, Rock the Boat. Like someone said she might not have had the strongest voice but she knew how to make songs that were iconic and were a staple for a new sound in music. No one saying she was the greatest of all time or putting her on some pedestal that can never be touched I'm just saying recognize, appreciate, and respect what she's given music wise ad that its above and beyond anything Ciara has ever done.
