Beyonce hardly writes her songs, yet she's thought of as a superstar. Maybe other people thought Aaliyah was on her way to become one?
don't mind some of these guys. If it's one thing some Coli critics are good at, it's at never being consistent.
I was saying that to say, just like Cieara, Aliyah was nothing more then a performer.
@ comparing Beyonce to Aliyah...you do realize that Beyonce is 1000xs the singer Aliyah was right? And she can perform and she was a better actress if you compare movies (that's not saying much) Basically nikka, Beyonce could take someone's song and make it her own, Aliyah sang how Missy told her to sang it.

All I'm saying is that Aaliyah didn't reach her potential yet, because she passed away so young. Let me know, from 1994-1999, who was the bigger artist?

Oh yeah that same 2001 where she put out her self titled album that went 2x Platinum, and the songs "Rock the Boat" and "More than a Women" was all over the radio?

you know the types:
- the ones that dont like r&b but like her image(lol) and beats.
- the ones that werent around back then, so they fall for the revisionist okey-doke.
- and then theres the people who fall under both of those categories.

Beyonce had time to mature and practice her voice though. Look up any beyonce performance from the 90s and she sounded terrible.
Better actress? Beyonce plays the same roles over and over again- a singer. Aaliyah took on more challenging and interesting roles, such as playing a vampire.
Aaliyah made songs her way as well. How many singers in the 90s-early 2000s were singing in falsetto over bassy hip hop beats? Aaliyah created that same lane that mya, ciara, tinashe etc follow.

in the 90s, Beyonce was part of a group. Of course she couldnt shine like she was supposed to.....see what happened when she dropped dangerously in love? Had nothing to do with her maturing her voice. She has always been a dynamic singer. I can't believe I'm having a beyonce vs Aaliyah Convo.
. And where did beyonce play a singer over and over again....and even if all her movies was of her singing, you know why that is? Because she can sing. I can bet if Aaliyah was alive, she wouldn't have stared in a movie that showcased her singing.

And Aaliyah didn't make nothing. She was coached by greats.(r-kelly, missy, timbo) They made the songs and styles not her. Beyonce always had natural talent from the gate.
