Just proves my point about how we don’t hold our legends with the reverence white folk does. :francis:

Wu Tang can go to Europe and are treated like Gods. “Old school” rappers stay making serious bread overseas.

I wasn’t aware so many kids these days wore shirts with artists names/logos on them like that. Wasn’t a huge trend for me growing me up.

What state was this filmed in?

And who the HELL expects a 13-14 year old to know any Metallica or Pink Floyd songs?!? Like I said i’m surprised its even a trend like that amongst the youth to be rocking artists shirts like that
We def did in HS...2003 grad here. It's more accessible cause now Hot Topic isn't a white only store.

Truth be told, i remember when one of my uncles grilled me when i was rocking the X cap before Spike's Malcolm X film came out.

:birdman: What do you know about that man?

Me: :sadbron: He was killed in Harlem

He bought me his Autobiography & an Africa medallion the next day

People on here have selective memory when they get older. Kids back in the 90s and 2000s listened to what was current at the time based on what was played on tv and radio. 90's kids where into Biggie, Pac and Nas they weren't busy bumping Run DMC and Africa Bambatta tapes at school just to appear "cultured". That was "old head" shyt back then. Similarly, today kids listen to whats current they dont give a shyt about what we listened to 10-20 years ago. Only once they get in their 20's will they start to explore more sounds and gravitate towards older music t refine their taste.....like its ALWAYS been through out time.
We was listening to current and old shyt in the 90’s down here. Now I’m not going to act like we was fukkin with Kurtis Blow and shyt, but we def was listening to early 90’s shyt in the late 90’s. It’s different now and theys fine with me.

A 12 year old girl was wearing a Def Leppard shirt at our 4th of July party. I asked her if she liked Rock and she said no, I then asked her if she only likes Def Leppard and she said she didn’t know who that was.

I looked at her funny then her dad piped in that he just liked the design so he bought it for her.

Also, people forget how important sampling was, bridging the gap between 60s/70s to the 90s. I wouldn’t have known most of those artists had it not been for soul sampling.

Just think of how much of a new audience Biggie/ATCQ/Ice Cube introduced to the Isley Brothers? Coolio to Stevie Wonder. Kanye to Chaka Khan?

It’s not a surprise with the trash fruity loops beats Made today that there’s such a disconnect.

Like seriously what the fukk! There's over a dozen of Rock bands they could bandwaggon before going Def Leppard, the bands they actually heard. What's next? Kids rocking Scorpions t-shirt? The Eagles? Deep Purple? :russ:
The Ramones got one of the hardest shirts in history but I ain’t rocking it cause I only know maybe two songs by them. I have to Google the names also lol. I’m trying to imagine kids rocking Frankie Says Relax shirts in 2023 and shyt :russ:

You talking music from the same era, early 90s, late 90s and early 2000s was the same timeline. Similarly, 2012-2023 is the same timeline. These kids listen to Chief Keef and Ice Spice, both of which came out in that time frame. The old eads here arr expecting them to know artists and songs from 2 decades ago. Thats like someone expecting you to be hip on 60s and 70s tunes in the 90s when all you heard in the radio was 90s rap...talkin bout "these young punks know nothin bout Kool and The Gang, listening to this garbage rappity rap music :flabbynsick:"

This actually taught me when i was kid to only wear sports clothing related to team i like. back in highschool, i would wear any jersey as long as it matched the color scheme i was going for. Like some green air forces and a celtics jersey. but there were too many occasions when people would approach me like i was a celtics fan and wanna chat. Eventually said fukk it and now only wear shyt from teams i actually root for.
