Taking a discussion away from the show thread...

Major characters either cut for sure or almost undoubtedly cut for Season 5:
Victarion
Euron
Aeron Damphair
Arianne Martell
Quentyn Martell
Aegon
Jon Connington
Lady Stoneheart
A few of the Sand Snakes
Penny
Wyman Manderly
All the Riverland characters from Jamie's arc

Major plots cut/changed:
--Jamie is skipping the Riverlands and going to Dorne instead. Without Stoneheart too, it looks like the Riverlands are for all intents and purposes cut.
--Ironborn plot looks to be barebones with no Greyjoy brothers, Asha only
--No Griff's escorting Tyrion, just Jorah only. And Tyrion will be with Dany by the end of the season in the some form or fashion
--Dorne plot focuses on Jamie, not the plot to wed the Targs. No Arianne or Quentyn means a much more condensed story
--No Bran this season

So to anyone concerned about fitting all the books in one season, understand that most of the season is merely:

--Jon/Stannis at the Wall
--Dany in Meereen
--Jaimie in Dorne
--Cersei/Maergery beefing
--Sansa and Littlefinger

Thats the majority of the season.

I thought the Victorian story line was leading to something (been awhile but I thought he was headed to Dany and was very close)
I also thought the Quentyn story was really good until he got burned alive (or is Quenty the one who went over to the 7 kingdoms on Tyrion request)

I'm still mad about the Kingsmoot. I'm hoping it makes it in at some point. Those chapters were made to be on screen.

There is no reason to assume that the Victorian (or any Ironborn) story isn't important simply because its cut from the show, however it is blatantly not endgame material otherwise they would have been introduced earlier in the series. Yes, there is a chance that Vic is nothing more than a vehicle for Dany to sail back to Westeros, but he stilll may have another part to play.

They only have 3 more seasons left and they have about 5 seasons worth of material, SOMETHING had to go.

@Adam3000

You seem educated on the subject, do you think we'll get a finale movie or do you think the end will play itself out on the show?

Thats just guesswork at this point because you don't know what is going on behind closed doors

Based on everything I've read though, I would say 90% no movie

Most of that movie talk is nothing more than click-bait articles latching onto GRRM comments about how he wishes it would end with a movie for budget reasons

I am pretty confident that this show will end with 7 seasons, no movie. I can see a potential split or extended final season, but nothing in terms of a movie or Season 8

The contract and scheduling situation would be an absolute nightmare, and HBO does not owe GRRM a time extension. He had 11 years from the show's conception to finish 2 1/2 books, and he is going to fail. It sucks for all parties involved, it really does. But thats the way it is going to be :yeshrug:

Let it go, let it go :lolbron:

Last word anyone received on Winds of Winter was his publisher saying that a "2015 release is unlikely"

So an early 2016 release (optimistic) prevents WoW spoilers on the show, but does not solve the dilema of him only having 1 year to write and publish book 7 before the show concludes

It's over :mjcry:

Only thing that could prevent it would be if HBO execs decide that George's artistic vision is more important than money and their employment status:mjlol:

So you think the last season will be based mainly on GRRM theories and not on an actual book? Thats kinda scarey....I thought I read he was writing the last two books concurrently?

I've come to terms with finding out how it will end on a screen instead of a book, that part I'm okay with, GRRM isn't going to be done with that next book for years. Personally, I don't think I'm reading it until late 2016.

But to find out the ending on a screen in a bammer, unfinished type way is what really gets me. I really hope HBO does this the right way.

No, not theories

GRRM has explicitly laid out the fates and paths of all the remaining characters to them. There are many details and side-plots he will invent as he goes along, but all the bullet points along the way are set and HBO knows them

He sat down with them last year to do this so they could start to map out the writing process/outlines for the remaining seasons
