Just so you know, you might want to dispel rumours of tWOW being announced on the 21st -- the hype is real for a lot of diehards that are grasping at straws.

so has GRRM surpassed Tolkien?

depends...as far as cultural relvence we wont know for another 20-30 years. But I prefer GRRM as a writer because Tolkien was a linguist actually only made LOTR and the Hobbit as a reason to use his made up languages (Elvish, Dwarvish ect)

Dunk and egg

It's so refreshing to see actual likeable characters on a GRRM story Egg giving me life with his character development

I feel bad skipping ahead (or rather backwards in time) to read this though, when I gave up on DwD

That's my point....in hindsight, not many of GRRM's chapters feel pointless or drag for too long. ASOIAF is actually a pretty easy read...LOTR can be absolute murder to get through ESPECIALLY fellowship of the ring where for the first third of the book they havent even made it out of the Shire.
