It's not the smartest, but it's not the first time.

In 2012 VD averaged 21 YPC in the playoffs/Superbowl.
In the NFC Championship game he had 5 catches for 106 yards and a TD
In the Superbowl he had 6 catches for 104 Yards
If you wanna say he played "scared" last year in the post season (which I don't think he did, but it's whatever), then that's one thing, but having one bad playoff run in 3 years doesn't constitute "playing scared".

Seems crazy for a guy to give up 200k over nothing. He is a 49er through and through and you never heard about him having any qualms with the organization or money ever being an issue.

If you think about it, since Jim Harbaugh has coached the Niners, no team has played more games. Maybe he just doesn't feel like coming to voluntary OTA's and would rather work out with his personal trainer or whatever.
I personally don't have any problems with VD not being there for voluntary workouts because I know what VD brings to the table on Sundays. If he's okay with losing $200k, then we shouldn't begrudge him for missing the workouts.

regardless, it's hard to see VD or boone getting new deals anytime soon when both of them have 2 years left on their current deals and with kaep's extension on deck. that's the price you pay when you have a stacked team. you can't pay everybody and you can't make everybody happy. it is what it is
