People just need to get out and look for shyt or actually listen to these RnB stations. Usher just dropped a hit, Maxwell just dropped a dope album, Chris Brown is dropping an album, Tyrese dropped something earlier last year, Jeremih still does it, August Alsina still dropping shyt, etc.. And thats off the top of my head.

People just mad that RnB is evolving just like it was supposed to do over a 20 year span and but one thing that will never change is black people that can sing.

Ill tell you what did disappear was black boy bands
Chris Brown is tryna be a rapper more than a singer.

That's your opinion though. These artists are very popular :manny:

Exactly. Its just nostalgia for most of these "RnB/Hip Hop has died" people, talmbout "theres too much sex on RnB radio in 2017" :kblackscust:Like R. Kelly wasn't pissin on 15 year olds in the 90s, or like Prince wasn't all "sexually open" in the 80s or like Donna Summer wasn't feigning orgasms over a beat in the 70s

Yeah. I agree that R&B stars are not quiet as big but they still do very well.

The premise would be better for groups.

Black people also created Country music. These music writers never ever acknowledge that.

What y'all are not noticing is that all music genres are suffering. Look at all the people that complain about how bad Country and Rock and Roll music have become. I really believe that a lot of this goes back to Black musicians not being as good as they used to be, because Country and Rock and Roll artist used to just straight up steal Black music and claim that it was Rock or Country. So all music is only as good as Black music.

This is true too. It seems like every genre is either being consumed or trying to compete with the pop sound.

Meh on all.
And this is why you think RnB is dead, because youre not trying to pay attention to the newer ones because they're not like the older ones you grew up on...

Same shyt the older cats said back when we were young.

Like I said, RnB is still around, still getting radio play, still getting concerts put out, etc. it's just evolved from the super simping, romantic ballads of the 90's and there are more hip hop influences

Just because you don't like to listen to it doesn't mean it's dead

Chris Brown is tryna be a rapper more than a singer.
He's still singing and known as a singer. He's not the first RnB guy who rapped. Tyrese had a whole rapping persona and album, T-Pain tried rapping before singing, etc.

The fact that you're encouraging us to go out and look for these albums/artists furthers the narrative that RnB is kind of dead.

No it's because people aren't checking for it. It's a newer style of RnB being displayed these days but if you wanted to hear the older shyt then older artists are still putting out music if you want to check for it.

Even some newer cats but yall dismiss them and complain. If RnB is "dead" it's because the ones complaining about it arent supporting it or the non mainstream ones

And boy bands/groups are dead honestly. If thats what all of you are referring to

Young kids don't like R{&B they want heavy beat dancing music or techno now.
Older cats aren't really buying cds and going to concerts heavy, so that 80s-2000s R&B acts don't have the heavy touring base to depend on like the pre-80s acts.
Its fukked up, on top of that, only play for R&B is white artists on black and white owned "black" stations, so you have black singers and crooners literally locked out the mainstream.

Same argument being made for over 50 years, Black music historically has evolved quickly. When Bebop and Duwop started to fade Soul, and funk music became the forefront of black music. They evolved into R&B and hip hop.

I would add Arts and Music Are Being underfunded/cut in schools and kids don't learn Music/Theory.
Black music in america originated in the Church as far a musicians and singers. not really like that anymore.

This can't be emphasized enough, all old school producers and singers were multi-instrumentalists. You think any modern producers could make something beyond the standard pitch-blended four bar loop of silliness we are subjected to?

Can any new school producers really play an instrument?
