"One of the more divisive topics in this year’s report involved digital and physical game releases. Nielsen asked players over the age of 13 how much time they spent playing games per week and how much money they would typically spend a month on games, then split those answers according to primary platform and if they preferred digital or physical games.

Overall, 66 percent of console users preferred physical games, compared to just 29 percent of PC players. Meanwhile, only 34 percent would rather pick up a digital game on console while a whopping 71 of PC users prefer digital copies over physical. "

Analyst: 66% of console players still prefer physical games over digital

I'm definitely not in that 66% this generation. Gameshare as well as Gold/PSN sharing has made things too convenient for me to go back. And this coming from someone who was nothing but physical all the previous generations.

That top row on the left is literally the only physical games I have for this current gen not including the two Switch games I have. Only having to buy one copy for both me and my lil bro makes going digital worth it for me.
Here's the thing about this survey, I'm a gamer and I wasn't polled. Black gamers matter :damn:

And while it sounds good in theory the truth is it don't matter what you like, the industry is moving in another direction. When they don't offer physical what you gonna do, stop gaming? Your kids won't care to play your games in P resolution :bryan:

With the basic hard drives and laser disc drives we got, pretty much gonna have to get use to that...a blu ray drve can't read the disc fast enough to load up all that data. Might have to wait until the next form of optical media for us to be able to do that.
i know i just hate it. honestly i can deal with a one time download, its games like state of decay 2 that are turning me away from any game thats not madden or 2k.
19GB download. not bad. 2 weeks later another 19GB download. Followed by a 5GB update. Download that, another 5GB update. I havent played Smite in months. Everytime i download an update, it gives me another. Some of us dont have the fastest internet, i can play online just fine but downloading can take a while.

i feel like digital games are giving these developers a way to put out unfinished games. Then they go online and see what people complain about. i dont even buy brand new games anymore, just wait for them to go on sale cause the bugs are fixed by then.

if i need to download a 50GB game (which takes a whole day for me) can they at least take the time to give me the finished product?

I feel you but you know what? Internet speeds double every two years on average. You'll get the speeds to handle the deeds soon enough assuming YOU don't change your situation first via your imagination...

You gotta hold down the block..cuz the block is hot :yeshrug:

That's legit fukked up, but to be fair that does seem to be a rare occurrence. All those Marvel games like Marvel Vs Capcom and the spiderman games got taken down but you can still download them today if you own it. I remember hearing about the smash tv situation and that whole situation was a weird mess.
im not taking the risk breh, cause with digital games theres no rules. if a license is lost, all the marvel games would get pulled. on disc im legit for life.

I know I'm late, but I'm getting back into gaming somewhat but I want to know how I can save games outside of the hard drive?

Never thought of resale (hence the preference for digital over physical), but every PC game I've bought so far had to be registered. Wouldn't that render the physical copy obsolete w/o a new code?

i go out of my way to get physical ps4 games, even order asian copies of rare stuff. it will be sad when we no longer can get physical copies
Here's my problem with what you're trying to accomplish. Everyone at one point or another has the urge to do this. But rarely if ever does it look cool. It's usually a weirdo that does this long term, and then they value stuff that others look at like :dame:

An example that will resonate with most, how cool do you feel in 2018 with a VHS collection :usure: All your favorite games will be available just like now but easier. And with that said the new forms of interactions will make most of these things obsolete relics from your childhood. Life is too short to give a damn about a collection of plastic. How you wanna be remembered and what will you do in your lifetime that is worthy of remembering is where ya heads need to be imo :manny:

They automatically save in the "cloud" assuming your system is connected to the internet at time of play. On Xbox, once you sign in to another system with your profile everything transfers over including your custom home screen.

They don't use codes on consoles, everything is linked to your gamertag or in your case..friend code
