Bought a Udemy course on Instagram Marketing today. Thanks to my chromebook's functionality, I got the Udemy app and then downloaded the entire course for offline viewing. At the least, I will get a more interesting personal IG via the course. Ideally, it will motivate me to push towards growing and eventually monetizing my business.
How is that working so far?

Completed 12% of the course so far. So far there have been a few insights that are obvious but never occurred to me to use because I never sat down and thought about what the end goal was of my account. Trying to watch a lecture daily until I finish the course. Taking notes in Google Docs

Finessed my way into an interview with this company I want to work at. Kinda of stretched my skills working with Microsoft BI stack, but I took a SQL Server Assessment and ended up scoring a 90. It's a large health system and my mother has worked as a telephone operator for a couple of their hospitals for the past 12 years, so I put that plug in as well.

My library offers a membership to Lynda.com so I've been reviewing shyt like crazy and taking notes so I can be ready. It's two hours long!! I'm nervous because one, I name dropped my mom and I want to represent her solidly, and then I'm scared I'll forget everything I've been reviewing. But I legit really know it...kind of. I've worked with all these tools, but not as extensively as the role calls for or as I portrayed in my resume.

I hope I get this SQL Server installation together so I can do some hands on as well. That will definitely stick more than just reviewing.

Good luck man. I use SQL daily. As long as you keep googling and working through trial and error, you got this! There are free tutorials online using the AdventureWorks SQL Server sample database FYI so that is a good method to play around with.

Here is what I used when I had to learn it for my job:
SQL in 10 Minutes, Sams Teach Yourself (4th Edition)
(Takes a lot more than 10 minutes tho so don't let the title fool you lol)

Thanks! I already know SQL pretty well so not worried about that. This role is more focused on ETL using SSIS, analysis with SSAS (cube development) and probably some reporting using SSRS, but the job description didn't mention the reporting piece so I'm not going to give that too much time. I have knowledge of them all, but not too much hands on and that's what they are looking for. That's what I'm brushing up on.

Edit: I'm a female :lupe:

Ahhh my bad misread the post. They started teaching me about SSAS and Cube Development as we started shifting our reporting away from SSRS and towards Power BI but my eyes just kinda glazed over. I have used Power BI for ETL's which is easy AF but it on a smaller scale than your job likely requires. Good luck!

The company I work at has around 140 employees. 23 people have left since I started in mid January. But they've been hiring people too, so the company is only down by 6 or 7 people. It just seems like a lot people have left though.

Am I right? Or do I just feel this way because I'm the IT guy in charge of closing their accounts?
As of now, it's about 45 people who have left since mid January. That's including the 7 layoffs from a month back. The receptionist was one of the layoffs. It's weird not having anyone at the front desk.

The layoffs and restructuring actually worked in my favor. My job hasn't changed, but I'm officially on the engineering team. And my new manager is the infrastructure director.

Great interview on Friday, where i was told i will hear the decision on monday close of play after the final interviews with other candidates are conducted. This etiquette of employers pulling a day out of thin air to get back to you with a decision is incredibly torturous especially since i've been unemployed approaching 4 months. If i'm given one more 'decision day' that is not met and i'm left hanging one more time i swear......... Might even cancel an interview i got lined up for thursday i'm just so sick and tired of this revolving door of interview....wait for days/weeks.....hear nothing/get rejected :mjcry:

I think I'm going to start applying to one job each month across Glassdoor, LinkedIn, Indeed, and possibly Dice. I like where I work but the compensation is really lacking. I'm not actively trying to move but if the right offer comes then I might follow it.

I was listening to a Financial Times podcast last week that said the US bond yield curves are starting to flatten and usually that is a sign of an impending recession. When short term bond yield curves where in greater than that of long term bond yields then the US economy was in a recession. Now, correlation does not mean causation but still.

The Trump tax cut was a way of "kicking the can" about 18-24 months as far as growth, but the US economy does look ripe for a recession soon. Housing market is taking off, there's cheap credit and there's also a lot of "fluff"/excess in the market.

No one can really plan for a recession outside of having a hefty savings fund. But I do think the next recession will be a doozy for the US. I need to just finalize my plan b and see what's popping with Nigeria.

keep griding you should try to see if you cant get some experience with the engineering team hands on so even if you get let go at least you got experience you never would have got

i had my weekly check in with my manager....the topic of my 90 days came up, which is approaching..basically said I had nothing to worry about on that front. Sign some papers to formalize things and I will be able to work from home regularly again. Thumbs up to that

Unrelated note now that I have to do business casual at work again, dry cleaning is now part of my monthly bills :hhh:...so many years of coming in casual to work....its still an adjustment

I'm close to an offer. This was a role where the hiring manager agreed the pay for the skills she wanted was too low, so I made a proposal to change the job title that would command a more marketable salary.

She told me she was hiring for two roles and HR agreed to eliminate one role and combine the salaries. She couldn't share the salary just yet because they are still working out finalities with HR, but I should hear something soon. I'm excited, but I'll still apply until I get an offer. Off to sign some paperwork for this temp gig.
