Real talk, you need to have that convo and get on the same page before you think about getting engaged.

Unless you think you can have a successful marriage with completely separate finances.

Also, how she buy a house without knowledge of 401ks, etc?
I plan to really get on it by next spring, so it'll be ironed out by next summer at the latest.

And she makes good money, she just saved up for 3 years and used an FHA loan lol

To be fair though alot of people dont know how to invest, so its not the end of the world.

Got a breh I know with a kid. He's in a community college and he just picked a computer science tract. How does he go about having no foundation starting to build a solid foundation ? He's at the literal bottom.

What advice would one offer? What YouTube vids should he watch?

Reverse engineer from where he wants to go where he is at now. So I assume he wants to eventually get a Como Sci degree from a university. Pick one of the major institutions (I'm a "mature" student at U of T) as an example, you should be able to see all the requirements and courses needed to obtain a degree. Clearly start with the courses for first year students and you can work forward. You should be able to get the course codes and depending on the institution you may have direct acxess to older versions of the syllabi used in recent iterations of the course. From those syllabi you will find the textbooks used. Some institutions have free lectures to accompany the course. (Stanford and MIT have quite a few). But in the emd you're gonna have to work through the text, lectures will not replace you doing the work.

The developers in the thread could probably give more specific advice. I'm doing math amd stats, but teaching myself C++ on the side.

The mechanic is cool, but you can tell these prices are just up in the air. Based on how a nikka feeling at the time. Yo told me $390, but the way I'm going up there with $360 in cash or the full amount on a card. Your choice. He loves cash.

No matter how many times I warn myself not to talk about salary in TLR, I do it anyway and immediately met with resistance. They really don't think beyond getting paid $15/hr and no matter how many examples you give, even your own, they will fight it. I've never seen a group fight so hard to be financially hopeless.

I remember at a part time job I worked during the pandemic, a chick said, she didn’t know anyone making more than 20 /hr :picard:

Man thank God real talk, this has been one of the best years for me career wise. I think once November rolls around and I knock out this key financial goal I’ll be in a really really good position come 2023.

Keep grinding brehs and brehettes. It can really be just one position that will change your whole career and financial trajectory for the better.

SN: My boy I referred is looking real good to get the role. Did a 15 min debrief with one of the mangers on the interview/hiring panel. Apparently my boy is in the top 10 of candidates for this role. They really liked his resume.

I did a good amount of cosmetic and content cleanup on his resume to make it shine though - my resume review skills from college still coming in handy till today :blessed::pachaha:

He interviews tomorrow. He gets the role and that’ll be a nice bonus for me :ohlawd:

Like another breh suggested, I just took it over. My wife is on board but she doesn’t know what she’s doing. Has a sizable 401k but I have access to it and direct where it goes.

You could nerd out and build a presentation that shows what long term investing does vs just saving it. The power of compound interest should show her how much it’s costing you by not investing. I use an app called easy calculator that amortizes it out for you.

My wife was not on board with investing in real estate. We had a rental that required a lot of work and she doesn’t want to be a landlord but a breh has goals and I created a presentation for her so she can see I know what I’m talking about. She’s on board now. Looking to go under contract soon on a couple 4 plexes. I suggest being patient with her and not trying to force it but be firm and let her know that investing is how you build wealth.

Create a spreadsheet and list all your assets on one side, liabilities on the other. Have that calculate your net worth and track it often. My networth has more than doubled since the pandemic of ‘20 because of house value and investments. My wife was surprised to see how much we’ve grown. Sometimes they need to see it on paper.

This thread Wage slaves. I commented

I’m a wage slave, but im not afraid to make moves to get paid higher wages. Whether it’s study something or quit and move to a new role. 8 hours is 8 hours but $60/hr hit different than $15.

Of course it was all "nobody is paying $60/hr" or whatever else. When I was earning $55k, which I thought was a lot, I was the highest earner in my circle aside from my friend who did daycare. I'm grateful for 6 figures/6 certs since it's SOHH inception. It was sohh members who showed me how much they were making, told me how to negotiate, hell just an introduction to certifications period.
