Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
Long time lurker.. I'm an ATC (Air Traffic Controller), one of the few black/mixed men in my building (zero black women). Surrounded by majority white men or women.. I feel like the FAA has done a TERRIBLE job of advertising this job and posting it for people to see but I'm always gonna tell people in my community to reach out and apply when able.

ATC gets a bad rep for being "super stressful" or being boring, but it's not as crazy as it sounds. For people who are done with training (about 2 years) the starting base salary will be around $140k+ for people at an enroute facility. Normally with OT and shift differentials, new people who are done with the training will make 155-160k pretty easily and it only goes up every year.

Anyone looking to make a career change, that's UNDER the age of 31... there's a new bid opening for this job June 24th-27th. Just gotta apply on the website usajobs.gov during that timeframe and you'll be emailed a time period to schedule a test and go through the process.

I wanted to make a whole thread on this and give more information to people, but think I gotta post more in order to make a thread anywhere.. So just getting that info out now.
Good shyt. When i was young and in school i learned about this opportunity from a friend. I ended up no taking it but it's one of many ways to make a great living in America via the trades

Help me out brehs/brehettes.

I'm finishing my MBA in a couple of months. I hate my current job. I'm trying to look for a new one but because of my resume its going to take time and networking to convince a big company to take a seriously look at me for the type of role I want. I want to quit my job and look for a new one full-time.

Obviously, this doesn't make much sense financially but to me its just like quitting to open up a new venture. Consensus says to just stay until a new job pops up but I don't know if giving the job search attention on weekends and some weeknights is going to get me where I want to go. :ld:
Definitely look for a new gig while working, get on LinkedIN, update your profile and let them come to you.

You could even set your profile to "Open to Work" if you want to be that open about it.

Have you reached out to TA at your current gig to see what roles you might want to apply to? thats if you like your company

Joined this new group and nothing but spam emails. Every single IT notification; new tickets, new employee processing, 6th floor door left open, etc. I’m on my 4th outlook rule.

Then they joke around in slack…all day. I hate slack, it’s such an intrusive platform. A professional group chat. Maybe other departments use it better.

don't quit your job, as someone who once timed quitting terribly (quit early March 2020, then of course everyone stopped hiring later that month), you're in for a world of hurt given the macro-environment where a lot of jobs are about to be shed. spend a full Saturday working on your resume and linkedin profile - i like to look at other people's profiles in my field to see what words/phrases they use and make sure all of them are on mine, add relevant skills, get endorsements, add a good headline, ask for recs on your profile, these recruiters out here looking, so you'll get some bites, but you're much more likely to take a job you want/the right job when you don't have that pressure to take just anything to pay bills

Yep, a lot of tech firms in the Bay have paused hiring. There have been some salary increases to fend off inflation, but I presume during the next downturn, there will be a lot of fat trimming.

The italicized is so key. I'm glad when I pivoted industries back in late 2020, I held out for a good role and company even though my previous company cut about 15% of the staff and our industry was heavily affected by the pandemic. Had a couple offers in Q2 and Q3 2020 but held firm.

Took some calls, had some convos with recruiters. I'm out of their pay range fortunately/unfortunately

Gonna ride this through the year and see what's what next year

I have a meeting with the chief of staff tomorrow about the budget. They wanted me to go through all the saas apps to see how much we’re spending. But like, why is this my task to do? We have an accountant.
