I agree with you 100% about culture being important. I know from experience that a lot of what separates jobs I hated from jobs I really enjoyed was the team culture that management builds.

This company though, I think they were just trying to cover up their own incompetency. Like they just completely forgot about me, then when I turned back up, they had to come up with a reason. I don't like their culture either after seeing how they move.

Definitely sounds like BS. When I hear words like budget and culture, I automatically assume racism and they didn't feel you deserved the salary you desired. They'd rather pay a less talented white the same/more or another non white a lesser amount. Culture is important, but gauging that someone isn't a good fit after you've interviewed to hell, is messed up. You couldn't figure that out from the first interview?
Pfft. :mjlol:

I don't think I've been to a company that hasn't done that.

Yo started the meeting telling me he didn't have all the data and proceeded to daydream about the end product functionality. "Yeah we could add a button that automatically refreshes the data at the source...". LOL Sir, you don't have any data to refresh at the source. :troll:

Them: Can we show how are customers are using the product?

Me: Do we currently store that information?

Them: No. But we can do it right?

It's not everyone wanting to work "IT", but wanting to start at the top. The majority of businesses have some sort of IT department, even if it's make shift, including some of the employers they currently work for.

You're not going to $12.99 Udemy your way into a job at Google, but if you go into an office building and look at the list of businesses on the panel near the elevators, ONE of them hoes needs an "IT" person. Start there.

Then so many people scared to talk to their employers. Introduce yourself to the tech team, if possible, maybe shadow during a lunch break or something. Tell the current manager they are looking to make a move. If a company doesn't support your growth, it's not the one for you.

I cant lie i was kind of looking forward to a trip to america all on company dime before i dip but i guess god has other plans. Either way my plans are still in motion and im counting down the months at this point

I put together a dashboard on Monday and had a follow up meeting yesterday. Dude goes "Didn't expect you to put it together this quickly". I could have taken this as a compliment, but experience has shown that when you're hired as a black woman, sometimes you're not EXPECTED to perform well, just be the face for diversity.

I'm also noticing why the finance department may feel ignored with requests. You have directors and other high-level employees at the helm of requirements gathering. The project I just mentioned was rescheduled 4 times due to conflicts. Once I had the requirements, it took about a full work day to build an initial product.

Then they want to make the end product so complex, I guess to justify it's reasoning. End users typically want something simple they can understand. Why you're trying to get this BI dashboard to write directly to the data source, is beyond me. It's supposed to take in your data, help visualize it, and provide insight. The database/warehouse is for writing to/adding info.

@Rawtid

I've been thinking about eventually getting into data analytics in the near future. Any info on where to start to build a good foundation?
