One of the companies that I interviewed with was Coinbase. Really bad process. No salary transparency or even a follow up to say that they were moving on. Put it together myself after two weeks of not hearing from someone.

My former coworker (this role) was only at Goldman for four months before she moved over to Tech, damn it was that bad? They don't have the best rep for Associates but yikes

these bags though proud of ya:wow:

You don't stay at the Big 4 firms for long unless you're an Investment Banker or on that side of the house in general. You do your bid from Analyst to Associate and maybe VP, then move on. You get the name on your resume and a salary floor of which you start negotiations with. When someone sees Bank of America, JPM or Goldman on your resume, they know whether or not they can afford your services.

@Yinny I'll also say that Finance culture is very rough. It's not for everyone. For her to leave after four months signifies that she was in a line of business and under a manager that rules with an iron fist. Mentoring is very hard to come by, especially if you're Black or a woman. As a Black man, no other Black men will take the time to speak with me because they don't see the value of they feel threatened.

It doesn't take long to see that this isn't what I signed up for but people put up with it because of the money and benefits. Where else are you going to get four weeks vacation off the rip as an Associate? People work for years before they get four, if they get four.

When I leave my firm, I'm going to spill the beans on everything I've experienced.

Interesting, I have a ton of friends/associates/classmates in the space up to White glove firms and I’ve never been curious tbh-was somewhat my track had I not been headstrong about law at the time (choose a law firm over CIT internships wayyy back when). But, as far as the stuffiness/cultures that has been a theme but I didn’t have particular insight into whether it was standard “eating shyt” or more “everyone lower than VP eats a ton of shyt, then the Black people get even more shyt” deal. Thanks, that will be interesting and insightful maybe for alum from your school/high school or your neighborhood curious about the experience (unsure if you have children/proximity)

It's grunt work under VP. I used that term in a meeting before and my ED turned red. You have to call things what they are. I earned that right because the work speaks for itself.

Honestly, the interview/hiring process sucks with a lot of companies and turns good candidates away more than lack of qualified ones applying.

I had one of the worst panel interviews ever and after it ended I emailed the recruiter and told him I was no longer interested. Surprisingly, they asked for feedback, and recommended me for a new role.

anyone else who cant stand corny retros and activities?
:mjlol: I have a retrospective coming up in the next hour. I don't mind them if there's something to actually improve on. But having them just because we're supposed to be having them is useless. Those ancillary activities I try to keep to a minimum :francis:. I'll shoot the shyt with people on the side but I'm not trying to do it as a group.
