It's been a minute since I've been excited about a role. It appears to be a good fit and would move me into the Qlik Admin space as well as 100% project management. I need more experience in both areas.

There is another I feel could pan out, they seemed they needed people immediately but only because they are unorganized. Type of deal where they mass hire, catch up, then fire everyone lol. But if I could rock two gigs for just 6 months, I could position myself more quickly. I'm getting this home renovated from top to bottom next year, cash flowing it would be even better, but I WILL have my HGTV moment.

Acorns is safe, easy to set up and moves with the market (you can choose from a few different risk levels)

Here's a link w/ $5 credit: Refer Acorns to your friends
Acorns is dope...its my virtual petty cash fund (I havent withdrawn from it yet) next to the actual petty cash I keep in my safe

Somehow I got sucked into some YouTube last night; white dude, programmer, recording himself writing a Ruby adjacent language and compiler. I almost want to follow his lead and just record myself making shyt. He was making shyt look easy even though he was supposedly learning as he went along :skip:, although he does have 20+ years in the game.

One video he was writing a garbage collector and at the start of his gc method he created a pointer and then a reference to that pointer, calling the reference the start of the stack (or heap, can't remember). Took me almost the entire 50 some odd minute video to realize and remember that by creating that pointer, it allocated a new chunk of memory on the stack, giving you an easy reference for traversal. Maybe I can provide that learning moment for someone else :manny:

Yo, I thought you said you were going to do some tutorials (linux, containers, setting up your environment etc.)

Main recruiter for these roles is out of office and their lead just came back from time off, thought they were ignoring me :picard:

three roles sent one might be a fit, the other already filled and the last has a diff requirement-numbers look good but I can’t stand certain spaces of my field- gonna have to angle for learning certain types of methodologies here to max my time, may just have to eat my cert myself $6k isn’t terrible honestly I just like free shyt but not worth an additional year of my time on either end

The other NYC IT tech is leaving. shyt is just going to get worse. If I didn't have time to study during the day before, how the hell am I going to do it now. Damn!

The only plus side is that I might be able to refer a friend to be his replacement.

I was offered the role. It's a law firm and it seems cool overall...emphasis on "diversity". I have to be in NY for the first day though, meaning I'll probably have to use public transportation. That's really what's making me anxious.

got one company lined up where total comp is hitting for $260k
it hurt, but i turned this one down...i'm betting on the startup. cash in hand is hard to pass up, but even if the startup goes bust, the title and comp I'll be able to command if/when i leave will make up the difference between the two

2 offers, expecting third - tho this could be an upset, one more final tomorrow and had to pull out of a fifth final simply because the timing wouldn't work for when i needed to decide on these other offers
ugh...now contemplating pulling out of this other one. but it's today, not sure if it's worse to waste their time or worse to cancel day of after all they did to accommodate my deadline

All the finance guys I know are switching to tech. Better hours, as much if not more money at the lower levels. I'm still new to the game but the business case for Wall Street has always been leveraging the banking experience to get into HF/PE etc. But that usually comes after putting in 6-8 years of work before you start breaking really big bread.

90-ish days at the new gig and I'm starting to get fatigued....still like my role and company, but i'm working ALOT. And now I see why that salary/bonus/equity offer was necessary. Burnout is real.

I just need to make it to spring, with our busy season behind me and I'll be gucci. Between me and my wife both having unlimited PTO and the kids being vaccinated by then, we going everywhere.

It’s review time, I got a request for a coworker and have to do my self-evaluation. I’m confident that I’m getting a comp adjustment and/or promotion pretty soon. I do have clear guides on all the criteria except for one they’re beta testing but will be thorough and honest.

we discussed comp expectations and it’s below my floor-aka no reason to leave- but I’m also about five roles ahead, sailing for Associate Director level (didn’t want to flood the system but basically discovered all of them after I applied for initial). Recruiter (company) agrees, will meet with team and see if they want to create a fit or push me through for the quant side which is my interest anyway.

Another role reached out, going through that.

Recruiter (specific roles but not firm) is presenting my background and package to a company, let’s see how it goes. Title is similarly priced at role level I’m interested in with above and does encompass managerial responsibilities. Lead/primary such and such.

my field is sooo lopsided that’s why I appreciate/prefer when they have frank convos about expectations at first chat, I’m on the higher track of MR (scoping, pricing, pitching, stats, technical and design acumen plus more) so the PMP cert will ideally advance me to certain levels just off the resume without having to “explain”-my title history externally is IC level despite my actual experiences and accomplishments. So I can’t accept less than an M/Sr M/Assoc D role esp depending on comp.
