That's a good question, I've been reading up on potential careers in Finance and the three that interest me
the most with what little research I've done are IB, Corporate Finance & Consulting (though I'm not totally
sure if that falls under the "Finance" umbrella !).

If I'm being completely honest :whoo: I want to make a ton of cash :whoo: and leave the industry I'm currently in.

I want to stay in California but I'm not averse to moving to a place like NY for career opportunities.

I really want to learn more about the finance world to see if it could potentially be a "new home" for me.

I :snoop: when I see all the "I'm proud of this...." or "I'm first gen this, first gen that" etc. posts.

I understand that people are building their personal brand and trying to "project" who they are
to potential employers but it makes LinkedIn feel no different than FB,IG,Twitter etc.
I don't say shyt on LinkedIn, I don't even know what the point is.

Matter of fact, I'd be to worried about saying the wrong thing.

It just seems like another way of professionally snooping.

And I mean when are you really supposed to be logged into LinkedIn if you're not a recruiter or actively looking for a job? During work hours? On a lunch break or after work?

I just don't care enough. :yeshrug:

corp finance is trash and doesn't need an MBA - at least the way i'm thinking finance which is basically internal budgeting and financial planning for the company

the vast majority of people who go into investment banking are doing it for exit opportunities into asset management or buyside (PE) so look into those - these jobs are rare + go to a select breed + aint for our types :mjpls:

consulting isn't finance, it is pretty flexible in terms of exit opps and fast tracks your career into leadership roles.

if you just wanna make money IB and some career tracks in tech (accessible from consulting) are the way to get paid. since you're from cali, if you go the IB route, look into getting into their tech groups, that way you have an easy transition to corp dev or a corporate VC (VC arm of a large org....traditional VC pathing is a lot more complicated) arm of a tech company - CA is king for tech clearly. if you can see yourself making NY home for a long time, then IB in any group will do

So they are finally again approving away days..... looks like we are going France or Scotland in February :francis::deadmanny: what an anti climax i just hope it's France and not Scotland.

I was expecting us to have it in the summer on a positive note this means i can probably move my exit plan forward and dip as soon as early summer.

For my next job i'm definitely going to try to get a job that requires international travelling even if it's just once a year. some people at my job have been eating off away days

Is it just me or has recruiting recently picked up alot? I’m getting like 3-4 recruiter contacts a day and I haven’t updated a resume anywhere in months. I’m even getting double emails from recruiters who just want me to pass their info along to other people.

I’m used to getting attention from them but this is different. shyt is crazy.

Same. Damn near a different Amazon recruiter every couple of days for the past 3 weeks or so, on top of random 3rd parties.

Somehow I got sucked into some YouTube last night; white dude, programmer, recording himself writing a Ruby adjacent language and compiler. I almost want to follow his lead and just record myself making shyt. He was making shyt look easy even though he was supposedly learning as he went along :skip:, although he does have 20+ years in the game.

One video he was writing a garbage collector and at the start of his gc method he created a pointer and then a reference to that pointer, calling the reference the start of the stack (or heap, can't remember). Took me almost the entire 50 some odd minute video to realize and remember that by creating that pointer, it allocated a new chunk of memory on the stack, giving you an easy reference for traversal. Maybe I can provide that learning moment for someone else :manny:

Speaking with a recruiter who sent me to Naples a few years ago, I saw a few positions that make great sense and I’m not moving nor rushing-want my bonus and want this to be perfect timing alignment. (I have to repay my company if I leave before Feb, not a huge deal but meh don’t want to). Huge ban on investing is pretty prohibitive in terms of what I want to do financially. Where I wannnaaaa beeeee

Mulling if I should/can dip my toes in Healthcare for a minute, opps are lucrative and I would’ve been in it had they not taken “long” to get back to me (company/role I wanted had already extended offer by the time this one got back to me). I’m not on that side but will ask for projects here so I can get that part down.

Not sure if it’s my industry but I don’t get as many recruiters reaching out, I used to in my last role and the pay was right but the locations were ehhhhhhhhh (Evanston). With that said everyone I reach out to—->enter the process and get to finals/offer so I’m straight.

Further schooling, debt, mulling an E-MBA route but not even sure if it will be worth it if less than a sizable guarantee bump. Likely will stick to PMP, strong ass recs and samples.

It's that time of year when I string Google along for a couple of months and then pull out of the interview process

I don't know what to spend my professional development budget on. My employer will reimburse up to $1100. I honestly think I have all the study material I need. I just need to sit down and actually study.

This job makes me feel like I need a cert in shipping with FedEx. I’m on the train home right now. I stayed late to ship out new hire laptops for Monday and so I wouldn’t have to go into the office tomorrow.

I linked up with a TEK systems recruiter, maybe in June. It's been 4 people that have replaced him since then. I like when they call and say "Hey I'm <insert name> and you were working with <insert name> but they are no longer with the company, I'll be blah blah blah...". Then they expect me to keep having that same introductory convo with them. It was cute the first two times, not anymore. Just put me on a do not contact list or something. Turnover stressing me tf out.

I'm definitely going to renew my Qlik tenant for next year. I didn't do all the stuff I wanted, but I'm seeing some different opportunities where having it is helpful. I really need to start playing with different datasets again, it's just hard to stay motivated at times.

All day people hitting me up on Slack for bullshyt. It’s exhausting.

This is people (plus my boss) on Teams, they don't get the concept that not everything that pops into your head needs to be a damn IM, email is fine- stop serially pinging me, and stop typing as if I need to immediately respond to you/interrupt what I'm doing. Shoutout to DND/Focus Time!

Shoutout to the state of blank for posting and not redacting any part of my lawsuit-fine but uh it's searchable public record and def contains my home address/tel number/emails yayyyyy
