Think I'm going to branch out more the OG RT thread I just can't get with at times. I found myself getting caught in the fukkery at times.

Had a "job interview" yesterday and it sucked. I learned trying to work clerical just isn't for me. I don't have the speed (due to disability) to work the job.

I called it an "interview" because the lady I would had been working for runs her own healthcare business. When I got there the interview is in a questionable apartment building w/questionable characters. I go up it's a nurse w/a patient and the lady had me wait 30-45 mins. Long story short, it was just too many red flags and even if I did well, I wouldn't go back for a second "interview".

I'm getting real tired of feeling used by these job counseling people recommending me jobs/training and expect me to blindly walk into shady situations/neighborhoods. I'm really thinking about going into self-employment.

I know this has probably be said but I know nothing about solid investing and I make decent money with atleast 2k a month I know I can allocate to something resourceful. What would be the best route going forward if one was in my position?

If you already doing a matching 401k and got little/no debt then go Roth IRA. tax free growth.

Depends on their situation. Do the parents NEED help? He's 19, is he in college and/or he have some things to pay off? 500k is a big amount but it's not lifetime money. Maybe if he's having to fund college he can make sure he's covered. The gesture is nice obv but maybe the parents are smart enough and basically invest it for him for his future if they're ok.

Hell he could've kept it, have a pro setup necessary accounts then give his parents each 14k every year no tax implications

If you invest 500k wisely you can make it into lifetime money quite easy actually.

Yes I understand that. I meant 500k to the parents. Typically it does make a big difference but usually it doesn't mean instant retirement, depending on their situation.

Now if he invested the 500k as a 19 year old, yeah he'd be an early retiree.

I dont have a Roth or 401k. I don't work for a company per say so I don't have typical benefits or options. The wife does so I'm covered but I don't know how beneficial it'll be for me without the matching unless I wanted to match myself, which won't give me much incentives....

On another note, anyone ever uses betterment?

ok if you're self-employed, you can still do a IRA, a roth IRA (i prefer this, again tax free growth), and now you can do a 401k for self-employed people, nicknamed a "solo K'' that allows after tax contributions, hence tax free growth again. You get to pick your investments, just go with funds with low expense ratios, lots of brokerages will help you. I prefer Vanguard but there's others like fidelity, etc. I think most should at least get the Roth IRA going.
