Finally getting out of the military:blessed:

But I made the mistake of overleveraging myself. I got a lot of debt that I’m floating and won’t get the the money back for a few months. And these Payments don’t stop.

The stimulus checks just dropped for individuals but the SBA grant situation has been a shyt show. They initially were giving 10k per business but now it’s based on how many employees you claim to have. People have gotten their grant so that’s good news

Im learning on the go and keeping my head above water. Going to be a good year once all the dust settles

My friend was talking about a role with the Feds she is hiring for and I think she is going to hook me up. It starts at like $102k and she was like "So yeah in 3 years you'll be at around $110k"...all excited. In my head I was like :scust:. I want to "settle down" and find a full-time role and start stabilizing myself, but the money is so slow. I've been contracting for a few years now and increased pay by $20k in less than two years, that's not something that could be done with petty 3-5% raises.

As a mom though, it's time to be a little risk adverse and this wouldn't be a bad starting point at all. I'm just fearful of not having the energy to pursue my own thing and getting complacent. Knowing your job/income will end at a specific time, lights a fire under your ass like no other. You try to soak up every marketable skill you can, so someone can pay you $5-$10 more for it at the next place :takedat:

I encourage all the brehs in here to know your worth.

Once you get out here in the market and see what passes for “above average” it’ll have you rethinking how you move. That old adage about there’s someone who’s doing what you want to do, simply because they put themselves out there is so true

Nothing but Truth! If it weren't for Sohh.com and ultimately this site, I wouldn't have any aims for 6 figures or turning my nose up at $110k salaries :heh: But I also know if I were white, with less experience and education, these companies would pay me 30% more with no problem. So, I've been trying to find a lane that works for me financially.

You can always quit the Federal job if you get complacent or the economy rebounds. I just don't think the economy will rebound anytime soon. Everytime I go on LinkedIn someone on my timeline is saying they got laid off recently. They'll be so many people looking for work after this is over it will drive down salaries like crazy. I did a couple of phone interviews last week and they rates their offering are complete garbage. It's only a matter of time before companies try and take advantage by requesting employees take paycuts if they haven't already. I saw dudes on Reddit complaining this had already happened to them.

I'm trying to find someone stupid enough to redo my security clearance so I can ride out this storm working for the Feds.

I don't see what you are talking about IT side federally or civilian side with regard to the federal government.

It doesn't matter which side if you have a Federal job and make it past the probationary period your virtually untouchable. I've worked for both DHS and DOD before.

The problem will be getting anyone to pay for your clearance. That is if it doesn't take forever to get cleared these days with everything shutdown. It took damn near 9 months for me to get fully adjudicated the first time I got my clearance. And with everything shutdown who knows how long it would take now. I left because their was more money in the private sector. But things will probably reverse with the private sector cratering right now.

Like I said I don't see what you claimed in your post. I don't see anything with regard to salary requests dropping contract side and I haven't seen any slow down or anything close to saturation in getting IT or cyber talent from anyone DOD side specifically.

Contractors haven't been wanting to pay for clearances for atleast 10 years now, but the good thing is the wait time is down big time for clearances. The wait is finally down to 9 - 10 months again for full adjudication, last year.

Maybe we're talking about 2 different things. I'm talking about cybersecurity jobs and how the rates have dropped 10-15K from just a few months ago. I have no idea on the Federal Contracting side because I left them years ago.

I used to routinely see contract jobs for 60-70hr. But are now 45-55hr in just a few months on the Civilian side.

Getting a Federal job with a base salary of 102K and job security. Is a way better play with companies cancelling contracts and laying off people right now.
