Knowing what you want is the hardest part.
Try looking at resumes and job postings for the position you want, and try to model off that.

Thank you. What I mentioned was for my business idea. I want to start a consulting company...eventually and that's going to be my foundation. I also have a great book by Keller Williams (real estate folks) that discuss using models for business growth and I've been glancing over that. Just felt inspired for a minute. Job wise, I feel my best bet is either an analyst or project coordinator of sorts, so that's what I'm narrowing my focus to. I just need something, while I plan out my ideas. I already dived head first into a business idea and failed miserably due to lack of proper planning.

Consulting is all about networks more than anything

Not with Government contracting, it's more about race/socioeconomic status...veteran, minority or women owned get priorities. I'm trying to find someone's retired military ass grandpa to be the face of the company to give it some precedence. The biggest obstacle/pain in the ass, from what I've heard and already researched, is setting up the companies correctly to bid on government contracts, so that's why this is a long game for me and not trying to rush.

Try to work with a minority contractor as a technical position and see if you can peep game and build the connections with the government leads.

Of course you have to find the right contracts to bid on, but yes that part is "easy". Setting up your company to do business as a government contractor, such as being designated as an 8(a), is what can be complicated.

Try to work with a minority contractor as a technical position and see if you can peep game and build the connections with the government leads.

I have the connections already, well at least as far as the process and knowledge of contracting goes. I recently worked a DoD contract on a military base and lucked into most of the division being black, so I made sure to network. Again, setting up your business to do business as a government contractor is the complex part, so that's why I'm planning out.

You don't owe him an explanation for wanting to further your career. I understand giving a heads up for professional courtesy or even to put you in a place to negotiate, but because he will get in his feelings is his problem, not yours.

what I'm saying is when you submit an application your manager gets an email notification of it and has to approve it. So the discussion will be unavoidable thats why I'm saying let my manager know before I apply. I already reached out to the Hiring manager and they explained the role to me which is why I want to apply.

:ohhh:Wow, honestly that would piss me off. What if you don't get along with your manager? That's crazy. Well good luck either way, he shouldn't be involved in that way.

*She

when my last manager moved on to a different role and I had my first one on one with my new manager she brought up "so I hear you were looking for other roles, what can we do to keep you in our org" I got kinda annoyed at that but it was whatever.

The only thing that i hate is that you gotta go through this for every app and if you dont get the role your back to square one if you see another role which makes it awkward. I get the checks and balances of your next level being aware so they can prep on their end but still, not every manager thinks the same so some can see it as "oh they wanna further their career" while others can be on some "damn they must hate it here".

I saw two roles drop for a SAS analyst and architect. One said $77/hr and the other was $98/hr...I applied for both, fukk it! :manny: I've been rejected for way less money :russ:

I received a SAS certificate in applied analytics when I was doing my masters program, so I included that with the application. I still have access to the SAS platform and they have a bunch of tutorials and video, so I'm going to run through them today. Be prepared in case they call me back. With that said, the SAS official certifications weren't all that expensive, I will put it on my list to consider.
