I had an inkling, but now I'm seeing for myself: our internal Kubernetes platform is completely fukked up and misconfigured :snoop:. I have specific needs and what should be consolidated onto a handful of nodes is spread across the entire cluster making it literally impossible to deploy my application properly. Up until this morning I had been deploying with the wrong setup because I was given incorrect information from the get go. Now that I have things seemingly correct, i find it out that my deployments have only been looking right because things were so wrong. Can't get shyt to function properly now :shaq2:. I'm going to have to drop some bombs on Monday and see if these people can get their shyt together.

No clue. You would think the team in charge of the platform is but I wouldn't hold my breath on that. I have to take them on blind faith that they know what they're doing :unimpressed:

No wonder I've been getting hit up by banks for contracting jobs. All their outsourced staff is probably struggling big time due to shytty home Internet connections. Dumbasses!
:mjlol:

COVID-19 Impacting Technologist Outsourcing for Banks, Finance Firms

Most technologists in banks are now working from home all the time, rather than alternating between one week in the office and one week outside. Sixty-eight percent say they’re enjoying the experience, but 40 percent say it’s hard or challenging.

One of the challenges seems to be working with colleagues in offshored locations such as India. As a result of the virus, the entire world is working from home… not just people in the U.S. and Europe. And in areas of India, it seems that internet speeds can be too slow to work efficiently.

“Some of our people in India have had big problems with their work from home set-ups,” said a technologist at a major U.S. bank in London. “They’re running at around 5MB at home, which is barely enough for video calls.”

As a result, work is being done more slowly. Instead of using video functionality to discuss tasks, technologists are resorting to instant messaging, this technologist added: “Productivity is down.”

The issues come after banks have offshored thousands of technology jobs to India in recent years. Goldman Sachs alone has a huge campus in Bangalore, with room for up to 9,000 people working across everything from technology to support and ‘strats’ roles. JPMorgan has its own ‘bustling technology center’ in Bengalaru.

Offshoring to India worked when local employees were situated in well-equipped offices, but now that Indian technologists are working remotely, some are said to have trouble even getting a broadband connection. One technologist said the new way of working seems particularly challenging for female coders in Bengalaru: “Childcare responsibilities seem to be a particular burden for our female developers in India, as there appears to be a patriarchal attitude that they should be looking after the children. A lot of them are having to work evenings.”

Anyone here have a small business? Did you self-fund or at some point find an investor?

I had a massive brainstorm for a service that I think could be profitable and scalable. I’m going to sit on pitching and shopping the idea until I have a fully fleshed out business plan, marketing concept/mockups and employees.

Most people I know work on W2 but form a small business so they can charge higher rates between two businesses.

The one guy who did start his own company worked for a vendor for a few years before branching out on his own. He's now since disbanded the company after like 10 years and works as a regular employee somewhere.

I'm guessing all the travel and employees being dependent on him was too much.

I also know people who did subcontract work for the Feds as their own business. But you're at the whim of the Feds and their archaic rules and funding problems.
