I write about globalization, business, technology and immigration.

Trump administration immigration policies, U.S. District Judge Rosemary M. Collyer invalidated the key U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) memos and policies that have caused skyrocketing H-1B denial rates and harsher treatment for information technology (IT) services companies employing foreign-born computer professionals. The decision came in ITServe Alliance v. L. Francis Cissna. The judge’s ruling may significantly change how USCIS adjudicates H-1B cases for many companies.

Tired of being broke and going through unemoloyed -- job search cycle. Know of the avenues I need to follow and get success -- Accounting, Finance and Sales. However, I am not getting the positions and roles I need. Instead I get dream chaser type roles with high-turnover rates. The alternative is Customer Service. Im so fukking done with this shyt.

Diploma in Business. Working on completing an Accounting degree. However, I counteract this with experience. As is I've worked in direct marketing, B2C and B2B roles in telecommunication, energy and finance environments. The opportunities I've applied are Trainee, Junior or Entry environments -- with specific focus on training and mentor ship. Examples

-- https://www.seek.co.nz/job/41118938 (Finance)
-- https://www.seek.co.nz/job/41129076 (Recrutiment)
-- https://www.seek.co.nz/job/41134235 (Insurance)
-- https://www.seek.co.nz/job/41064950 (Energy/Telco)

I understand that no having a degree is big detriment and I regret HOW I approached college. Should've worked full time and studied part time (as I am now). However, its not like I am going for ELITE corporate jobs. Rather playing to my strengths.

college game has changed employees do not care about your irrelevant work experience once you graduate, if you are studying accounting you need to be actually getting intern positions as an accoutant or you will struggle getting account jobs once you graduate. if you go to any decent college you should have career days at least 1 a year you need to go to them and speak to the employees its going to be the quickest way for you to get relevant working experience. even if you are only there for 1 summer its going to be better than you working unrelated jobs.

Accounting is my fail safe. Originally I started with Double Majors in Economics and Finance. Messed around and ended up going Finance. Program had HIGH expectation and as I said a combination of factors -- personal and mental, I ended up dropping that. As I wanted to have good record once I signed for their Masters. Switched up and undertaking an CPA Accounting course -- once approved I'll apply for Master in Finance Biggest passion for me is Finance and Sales -- due to the earning potential in either. In NZ (Auckland) you're not getting apprentice/junior accounting role unless your a 3rd year or on placement. AT BEST you will be an Admin, Bank Teller. Instead, I'd rather leverage my skills in something rewarding. For now Insurance, Recruitment, Collections are my best bets. Alternative I could go into Real Estate but in Auckland that is the equivalent of saying I want to be a rapper. My issue is I am 25 and feel like life is passing me by and I have fukk all to show for it. Socially, Financially, Personal, Emotionally, Spiritually, all I see is nothing but Ls.

I got to peeking at real estate again and decided to accelerate how quickly I pay off this car loan. Putting an extra 200 and change on each payment. I have to run some numbers to see if I can put even more towards it without noticing the effects.

Advice, my kids are getting older (5 and 8) and my wife had suggested that I get a newer, bigger vehicle.

I'm almost done paying off the car I have now so should I just trade my car (which means more car notes over the next couple years)?

Or, should I just keep my current compact SUV?

I mean do you truly need a larger SUV? Yeah safety was lax back then, but my parents were doing just fine with a Crown Vic and 4 kids back in the 90s. How often are you filling (I assume) all 5 seats and wanting for more space? Can you find a better use for the money you'd spend over the next 3-6 years? It sounds almost like a selfish request to upgrade, with the kids and end of your current loan being used as justification, no disrespect intended. Whatever your decision, just make sure you run the numbers and budget so that you don't wind up spending all your excess income.

New year, new decade, new gameplan.

I put in my notice last Friday. Went over well with my immediate boss. I have some savings available, so I am going to take time off to study and just get my creative juices flowing again. I will be getting some MCSA Certifications to stack my resume in case I jump back into the same field. Additionally, I will also be teaching myself Web Development in case I want to reapply as a Jr Web Developer and company hop for a few years to a higher salary.

Since I'm in no rush and the company treated me well, I gave almost a two months notice. As that date gets closer, I'm going to start a thread to document my journey

The plan was to quit on 4/1 but then the stock market started has a breh like:

Luckily my boss was thinking the same thing and in our one-on-one meeting, she brought up the idea of canceling my notice and I agreed. This happened last Friday. In retrospect, I'm very glad that I gave the company an extended notice because they were able to turn around and look out for me on the back end.

A small part of me feels like I'm hustling backwards but a much larger part of me remembers when I was trying to get a job in 2010 after the recession. I'm in no rush to be sending +10 resumes a day for months on end with my savings dwindling away. Admittedly, back then I didn't have any type of specialized skills but since my goal is changing careers, I am concerned that people won't be hiring, let alone hiring people with zero experience on-the-job.

On the plus side, because of the pandemic, I'm finally working from home and I will be carving out more time for professional development and hobbies as a result.

Smart move. I suspended my job search last week. The only jobs leads I'm seeing are for recruiters looking to hire people on short-term contracts. I suspect even the market for IT contractors is drying up. And companies that rely on a revolving door of people on short-term contractors wont be able to find enough workers. They'll either need to force their internal people to do this work or hold off on it.

For those of you working from home and still hosting/attending meetings, are those video conferences or voice only? Seems to me like the people "new" to teleworking are doing video conferences rather than just a normal phone conference + screen sharing. The 2 years I've been at this, I've only had one video conference.
