thinking about going back to my old job...really can't stand the role/culture of the new gig. old job has a role open on a new product line in the NY office - i left b/c i was over the product i was working on and wanted to move out east. plus my manager left and his job is open - wonder if they'd hire me to run the marketing team :lupe:

this chick on the design team quit and they bent the knee to get her back...everyone at my old spot liked me, i got glowing reviews, and i'd still be the only black female in a business position, they should say yes

How long you been at your current gig?

What business books are y'all reading or intending to?

I just ordered Emotional Intelligence. I also may re-read How To Win Friends & Influence People because it's been over a decade since I read it.

I usually go through 30 to 45 books a year.

So far since Jan 1 been through these some aren't business books but I dont read fiction so they always help.
  1. Atomic habits - Decent
  2. The Age of Survival Capitalism - good
  3. The suicide of the West - right-wing but still the best damn book I have read in the last 3 years hands down!
  4. Aftermath James Rickard - good
  5. Empire of the Summer moon - reading now really good
  6. Ultra learning - next

Just wrapped up my interview today. My manager probably knows I'm interviewing. One of my coworkers is also interviewing as well. Whole team is about to be bled dry lol.

The new company I interviewed for would be a good pay bump but the location and team just aren't it. Older workforce and the parent company is looking to sell the business unit so there's some fog as it concerns long range vision. No thanks.

Also, their processes need fixing. I'm already in a team that's trying to overhaul their processes, I'm not looking to jump from one shaky foundation to another. I actually want the work to be defined so I can learn well and build a broader skillset. I'll save ambiguity for when I pivot back to SS. Africa, at least over there I'll have more skin in the game and the upside is much higher.

We push on.

Apparently I'm nominated for a promotion this review cycle. I've had above average metrics, created documentation for internal engineers, and mentored junior colleagues. Been in my role for a little over two years.

What I have gotten every year is stock bonuses but I haven't gotten much in terms of a salary increase. I was just discussing this with my boss so hopefully it goes through.

5 months  :russ:

it’s just not a match, no point in pretending

I've been at my current role for a little under 3 years. I have a good feeling that a company I just interviewed will give me an offer but I know I wouldn't even want to be there past 2 months, but my current role is grinding my gears at the highest level. I'm thinking about accepting the potential offer just so I can leave my current company, but would still interview elsewhere.

Also, don't MBA adcoms like to see you've been a current role for at least 18 months before moving on? If I stay at my next gig for 2 months can I just omit it from my resume?

The goal is to apply this fall to test the waters (probably just Consortium schools to gauge my competitiveness and lessen the financial outlay), but I feel my application will likely be stronger if I apply next year (for the c/o 2024).

is your current job your first/only job? has it shown any progression? there's a couple ways to play it, you're already going to be at the next gig for a short time when you put in apps, so if you took this new job and left after 2-3 months, just extend the dates of your current job and leave the 2 month stint off the resume. but i wouldn't take a jib that i knew i'd only want to bridge me over while searching for a better op, just stick it out at the current gig and continue to search. it sucks, but the short stints like that should really be a last resort when you've taken a job you thought would be a good move and it turns out to be shyt (like me now...)

Yes, first proper job out of college. Progression started to slow in the past 5-6 months but really flat-lined in the last 2 months. A couple recent layoffs and corporate reorgs (to a team that has already seen some layoffs) and the environment is toxic, ambiguous and just down right mentally draining. I tried to pivot elsewhere in the company but was shot down. I'm just done with this place, there's no focus on actual work. We're just "busy" but not really producing as we should be. It's becoming a chore to come in.

My application to B-school this year is more of a "I have nothing to lose" kind of thing. Mentor of mine told me I should have actually tried to apply last year even if I'd get denied. Then, after boosting my GMAT score (my goal for this year) apply again to show I made progression/progress.

I figure if I get into a gig for even 2 months, I can just extend the duration on my current role on my resume and leave off the 2 month stint.

I'm really kicking myself for not landing that F-100 role back in Dec :francis:. Company would have been a step up in every sense possible.

Had someone reach out about a position with another company with a 10k salary bump.

I really like my current gig but I'm at least gonna explore :jbhmm: Just need to update the resume with my current position

This is why unions are outdated competition has replaced them. Keeping top talent is as hard as hell.

Good luck with the glance on the other side 10k is a good bump.
:salute:
