Do any of you guys have college debt? How has it effected your life?

Thankfully, none. I went in-state plus I got a tuition remission because of my mom's job. My parent's also helped out. All in all I think my 4 years was less than 25K. And this is a top 50 school, top 20 public school.

It definitely helped as I don't have that burden of debt that often cripples people's ability to take a risk in their career. Also helped me save up a bit.

I do actually have to do more and ensure I take full advantage of this "leg up"

I got like 17 vacation days I haven't used with my current company. They pay you out fully once you leave. I have like 12 sick days which they don't pay you out on. For any upcoming interviews I'll try to use a sick day instead of a vacation day. Try and maximize my payout. I can use the payout to continue my Nigeria fund or put it towards investments. We'll see.

Man...just finished writing in my journal and I'm looking back on the goals I set for 2019. Can't believe half the year is already gone.

Jan - Mar 2019 - I'd give myself a B+
  • Paid of my consumer debt
  • Saved a good bit of money
  • Got promoted at work
April - Jun 2019 - I'd give myself a C+
  • My spending got off the rails a bit
  • Kinda "coasted" at work
  • Skills development wasn't as strong as it should have been
  • Was "lukewarm" on various fronts. A bit of analysis paralysis.
  • I have started making some decent side income
Just need to plug a few gaps and keep my focus laser sharp!

Pro tip: You should always be interviewing. Even if you aren't looking. Always test what's out there in the market.
Problem is I am so comfy in my role. It's not just the money, it's the company, the team, the opportunities for growth/development and the flexibility. Over time I've developed a holistic look at work... have to look at the whole package and I have it pretty good right now

I've worked at a lot of jobs... there is very little worse than waking up to have to go to a job you hate. To a degree the money doesn't even matter in that context

But now that I've got a taste for programming I will make a move. Sept makes 2 years in this role (which is among the longest I've stayed anywhere) and I've done a lot + still have a lot more to go. I'll start looking around next year
