How is the job going breh? Im tryna make it to where u at i look at this thread for motivation....i got a bachelors in programmin but i live in the bahamas aint many high paying jobs over here..thinkin bout going canada get my masters but im currently workin an IT gig in government...only getting $18000 annual salary thoJust started to work with Airwatch MDM 6 months ago. I learned alot of admin level knowledge . I can build the organizational infrastructure that mobile devices use to be managed.
I got curious and applied for an admin role and within a week a got a job making $45 an hour. I started last week. Highest before that was $27 an hour.
It was easy stuff to learn too.
I got an A+ cert in 2012 when I first got into IT but it expired a few years ago. Experience is what most companies usually care about not certs.
Don't think coding or networking is only way to go. There's tons of IT options that pay alot

Work visas hard to get?...tbh im kinda green about foreign systems so idkJob is chill. I'm caught up and it's going smooth.
Can you only get to Canada for schooling? Cuz if you can get a work visa I'd skip the masters. A bachelor's in programming is legit just need to build your experience and be in a place where there are opportunities.

what do system admins even do like i need someone to break this down
Everything @Blowdro Wilson said. Also how to setup printers (basic and becomes repetitive). Windows Server. Active Directory.Maintain, monitor and configure the host workstations, set up accounts and permissions for users, etc. Active Directory is a good place to start learning.
damn shyt sound sweet might just say fukk criminal justice n do thisEverything @Blowdro Wilson said. Also how to setup printers (basic and becomes repetitive). Windows Server. Active Directory.
He only had to manage two servers and a switch and then the workstations. He was literally on social media throughout the day because once you setup everything after getting the job you're really just "maintaining"
What you really want to do is graduate from system admin to security or networks. There is a cap to how much you can earn as a System admin even though they are in demand. Once you get into Networks/Security the sky is the limit. I think someone else can better explain this as I'm only speaking from what I've hearddamn shyt sound sweet might just say fukk criminal justice n do this
It's more about your personality type, skill-set, etc. You don't choose on pay in IT, you choose on where you feel like you are best at. So many places where nikkas is eating good in this industry. My company legit think they got me on a discount and they are paying a nikka good money right now. I am like, shyt. But nikkas getting 270/hrDamn, Im gonna graduate with a degree in law and the sector looks like absolute dogshyt in comparison to IT/Software engineering
Working hours seem relaxed and the payout is just as good if not better than the shyt solicitors make here, unless you make partner but that shyt is extra difficult.
I shoulda picked a computer science degree , Thread is inspirational tho. I'mma get to the Cert thread and
Thanks breh
Btw which is more lucrative, Security or that Development shyt?
Damn the whole industry sounds good. It's more about your personality type, skill-set, etc. You don't choose on pay in IT, you choose on where you feel like you are best at. I would say first you want to learn a mix of everything. See what you like the most. You don't have to get a cert.Damn the whole industry sounds good.
Is a computer science degree needed or can you go purely of certifications and do well?
I would say first you want to learn a mix of everything. See what you like the most. You don't have to get a cert.
You can go techie:
Dev (coding) (Jr, mid, sr, architect but you need to be the shyt to get this label, design (adobe illustrator, photoshop), intelligence/creative (this mixes writing with tech knowledge) (levels are: Jr, mid, consultant), you can be an engagement lead but you must know the tech and you must communicate with different stakeholder as well as global, of course you got other forms of IT. You got medical IT, you got InfoSec and that got a shyt load of shyt to know and learn. You can an Sec dev, engr, vulnerability researcher, etc. shyt, IT is huge af. It's kinda hard to break in it. You got skills and many of the pro specialize at shyt. Some on Sharepoint. Some on Adobe experience manager, Sitecore, Drupal, etc. Man, it's deep to be frank. Think about it like law. You can be all types of lawyers. Intl', health, cyber, etc.
