Also I like the flexibility of contract roles, I do my thing and can quit if I need to move or take a few weeks off. I'm also invisible at work since contractors are temps.

Can you elaborate on this? Have you ever been rehired after you quit? Have you done Corp2Corp?

I have been offered Corp to Corp but never taken it. I meant when I get a contract role I can work for the 6 to 9 month duration that it lasts then take some time off before I start another role. Or I can just quit if I have to and jump on another role when I need to.
I don't like full time cuz you have to commit to it

Just started to work with Airwatch MDM 6 months ago. I learned alot of admin level knowledge . I can build the organizational infrastructure that mobile devices use to be managed.

I got curious and applied for an admin role and within a week a got a job making $45 an hour. I started last week. Highest before that was $27 an hour.

It was easy stuff to learn too.

I got an A+ cert in 2012 when I first got into IT but it expired a few years ago. Experience is what most companies usually care about not certs.

Don't think coding or networking is only way to go. There's tons of IT options that pay alot

do you get overtime or is it straight 40 ?

I'm thinking about this too. Read security is the easiest it path. So A+ isn't required then? Can someone lay out a path of Certs?

All my cousin told me was the A+ was just the basic foundation cert for IT but the security+ carries more clout and I could really go places with it.
:yeshrug: I mean he's a linux system administrator for Accenture so I take his word as gospel

I can work 40 or OT. I'm the only Airwatch admin so I can easily claim that I have to work past 8 hours.

A+ is like the abcs of IT certs. I got it cuz I knew nothing about computers. Security + is a real cert that holds some weight

Update:

Just hit the 3 week mark. I had to do alot of library time and alot of hours worked to catch up on what I don't know. A breh in ATL quit and refused to explain anything to me about the project he was working on that I had to take over.

So far so good, they think I'm an expert which I'm not but I slowly am becoming one. :whew:

Darril Gibson is one of the best Cert authors in the business. He makes the concepts easy to grasp.

For those in a 'comfortable' job, would you spend out of pocket for your Bachelor's degree? My company offers 10K tuition reimbursement a year but it's going to take me 5-6 more years at this rate to finish with them paying it all. I feel like the lack of a Bachelor's degree would hinder me with external roles/companies I would apply to. I'm also not necessarily in a huge rush to move at this point but don't want to be stagnant at my age either. :patrice:
