Trust me when I say this, once you get past the initial help desk/deskside world of IT, a degree definitely comes in handy and is often a requirement.
Do they ever ask to see transcripts or a copy of the degree? I have interviewed a bunch of times for positions that require a degree and they always gloss over it

Oh ok didn't know your story.

Damn you aren't lying about the poorly run companies. Every Indian IT company is run shytty.

I'm not rushing just kinda tripped into a nice gig. I had lost ground to make up for anyway.

What field are you in?
I'm in cybersecurity. But the last job offer I got paying about 93K required twice as much work. And in my current role I have very little supervision. So I've gotten used to not being told what to do.

Yea low stress job is barely even like working. That little a pay bump isn't worth that torment.

New role I'm in is easy but managed by retards who try to pressure you to cover their screw ups and micro manage. I'll likely bounce for a better calmer situation once I get enough experience and use this role to pad my resume.

But Yea I ain't killing myself for money unless of course it's an insane amount

Just started to work with Airwatch MDM 6 months ago. I learned alot of admin level knowledge . I can build the organizational infrastructure that mobile devices use to be managed.

I got curious and applied for an admin role and within a week a got a job making $45 an hour. I started last week. Highest before that was $27 an hour.

It was easy stuff to learn too.

I got an A+ cert in 2012 when I first got into IT but it expired a few years ago. Experience is what most companies usually care about not certs.

Don't think coding or networking is only way to go. There's tons of IT options that pay alot
Salute to you on that. I'm in the same position as you, started I.T at 27, got my A+ cert and landed a job few months later. After that got my MCSA server 2012 cert and that opened up doors but like you said they care about experience first before anything. You mind PMing me a look at your I.T resume? Most i got to had been $35 an hr, just want to see if there is anything i can add to mine to get to the next level. Salute to you though.:salute:

Congrats breh.

Got me wondering if I should look around...I've been working in IT since college and I'm only up to about 28/hr (not that I'm complaining). Although I get damn good benefits where I'm at (retirement plan, plenty of vacation time, casual environment, can call in whenever I feel like it, never have to work weekends/holidays, etc.) so it's hard to leave. I'd hate to give up all that just for more pay, especially if I ended up in a higher stress position.

What do you do? More stress is from senior and management roles. I'm an admin. So they do expect alot from me but I know the program real well so it's not an issue.

I'd never ever take a management role. shyt is slavery

How is the IT job market in Minneapolis? How is your social life?
It's one of the better markets for IT. It's better then the market in Houston. Chicago is also near by and really good. Are you asking about the cities social scene cuz it's not that impressive. I'm not that social so I manage. I got relatives out here so it's tolerable. Its a great place to build yourself up tho
