So, I purchased a 4K tv on Friday, A top of the line Sony 55"

It upconverts nicely and the colors are great with the display, but there are some big problems with upconverting. Sound lags, and then there is ghosting while gaming. I got another sony and the same problem occurred (the Best Buy guys said it was a common problem). The samsungs had the same problem as well. Sharps were even worse.

The technology just isn't there yet. I returned that shyt with the quickness. I love 4K, but I think it's only good for gaming on a pc. I'm not happy with 4K tvs at all. Plus, there's no content.

What do you all think? Are you happy with your 4K tv? If so, which model did you get? Sony's are a piece of shyt, sharp's are a piece of shyt, vizio only has 1 hdmi 2.0 output, lg I dunno. Is there a good 4K tv that doesn't cost $3K and doesn't have sound lag or ghosting?

Does upconverting just always result in lag?
just read this

http://www.cnet.com/news/why-ultra-hd-4k-tvs-are-still-stupid/

and you will see why like you said "Tech isnt there yet."

I'm surprised they still was producing plasma flat screens the way technology keeps evolving. I remember seeing a 70 inch flat screen on sale for like $400. I was like :gladbron: I read the print that shyt said plasma I was like :scust::camby:

And it still looks good..:wow:
I still watch Blue ray's and play COD on my Samsung Plasma and folks be like "yo where you get yo TV from".....im like :mjpls:

actually one good side effect of 4k TVs is it's pushing the 1080p pricepoint down.

This piff Sony 50" is only $800 when it would normally be in the $1000-$1200 price range

amazon.com/Sony-KDL50W800C-50-Inch-1080p-120Hz/dp/B00R45XCMM/

For the TV heads, are the major brands (Sony/Samsung/LG) gonna make 1080p sets into 2016? Or would this be a good time to get the last of the 1080p generation?

Exactly. I have panasonic and samsung plasmas and they blow all my friends/families tvs away.

Those panasonic plasmas were godly. But people are dumb as shyt.

Places like best buy etc made more commission off lcd/led tvs so they pushed them more and shyt on plasmas, I witnessed it first hand many times.

I still have my Pioneer KURO plasma :noah: and it still shyts on pretty much anything out today. Panasonic bought Pioneer's plasma division that's why the last run of their plasmas was so godly. I use a JVC projector now but if I was going tv I'd only go with a 4k OLED.

I've mentioned before on this forum that Hollywood themselves aren't really on-board with 4K, As much as 4K has been pushed at CES the last few years.

Whenever I look up tech specs for recent movies on IMDB, I notice most movies nowadays ARE NOT being Mastered (or even shot) in 4K.

For example the 2 big Hollywood movies coming out this weekend, "Ant-Man"
& "Trainwreck".

"Ant-Man" was shot digitally in 3.4K is Mastered in 2K. "Trainwreck" was shot on Super 35mm film & is mastered in 2K.

It's NOT a good look for 4K that the next Apple TV won't support 4K.

Nah plasma's hands down had the best pic quality u can get in a TV up until their demise. shyt even up to last year Samsung's best TV they had was a plasma F8500..before that the Panasonic's had it lock. I said there was no use in mentioning them anymore cause u can't get em anymore..not cause they wack.

Yeah Panasonic was the king when it came to plasmas. When they left they left a huge vacuum.

Yes. The best TV's as far as pic quality was Panasonic's VT and ZT series plasma's. Before that it was Pioneer Kuro's.. Anybody who's really into TVs would tell u this. Plasma gave u the best colors. Deepest blacks. And smoothest picture and motion.

And now OLED came through and crushed the buildings :blessed:

I'd kill for a Panasonic OLED though :whew:

I wish LG would would drop a sub $2000 1080p OLED TV just to get the market moving.

I think a $1500-$1800 45-48" OLED 1080p would at least get casual people to take a look from the ~$1,000 pricepoint 4k TV junkboxes that are out there.

1080p upscaled to 4k on crap panel/upscaler next to a 1080p on a native resolution 1080p OLED panel would be a blowout in the OLED's favor.

But having the starting pricepoint at $2,500 makes it a non-starter for most no matter how much you tell them the picture quality is untouchable from other panel technologies.

The LG 55EC9300 is $1600 online right now.

I got a Sony xbr 850a when it first dropped it retailed for 6500...sound does lag but upgrade to a new receiver with dialogue sync no issues...only complaint is theres only 1 4k input which is only an issue because my receiver is an onkyi and the Sony 4k player cant talk to the tv thru my receiver. I'm hoping getting a Sony receiver will remedy the problem but not a big deal since there aren't any other devices that can do 4k at 60h natively yet.

Yea my next joint is gonna be an OLED.. Been waiting for consumer based OLED for years for some good ones that won't break my pockets. OLED has all the advantages of Plasma's and LEDs without the disadvantages.
